Dear Arthur and friends,

Two victims, one local, were found due to the cold.  The Providence Journal reported a homeless man was found frozen to death on Fri. 1/2/09 under the Eddy Street overpass.

From Channel 12 news:  A 22 year old New York City man suffering from cerebral palsy was left in freezing temperatures on a school bus for 12 hours on New Years Eve  and New Years Day.  Rescue workers found the victim relatively safe.  The bus driver was immediately arrested.  How many lawsuits will result from this?

A third victim of cold treatment?  The East Providence Teachers Union has been asked on Friday 1/2/09 by the school committee to reduce their paychecks and pay up to 25 percent of their health care.   How would anyone feel if their boss asked them to do this?  The third situation will become ugly if mediation does not take place.

Peace,  Jim

Dear Arthur and friends,

Even though the East Providence teachers story was on Channel 12 news , the story is not definite, it was based from an incomplete TV story, because it was a thirty second sound bite.  There was no verification or proof of the East Providence story.  I apologize for the error in the third paragraph of the previous story.

Thanks,

Jim

EP seems to be true...but sure sounds ;like they are all really in a corner and you can't manufacture the money from pooor communities. Time for the teachers to give a little..and pay part of the insurance and copays like all of us...maybe work 12 months a year too

We all sadly can not deal with the homelss and sadly those with mental illness are difficult to help like the 63 year old at Crossroads who needs to be near the door when he finally came in with his wheelchair

Dear BigAllan,

If teachers have to work 12 months a year, their salaries would have to increase.  No savings would be held in this idea.  As a matter of fact, the Central Falls School Committee had the same idea in 1958- work the teachers in the summer as members of the Department of Public Works.    Would any professional, doctor, lawyer, or teacher work at a flat rate or a reduced type of work?

Interesting ideas, Big Allan, but Pawtucket Teachers Alliance has all ready paid part of their health insurance and voted on copays in 2007.

Peace,

Jim
