NAP- Neighborhood Alliance of Pawtucket

Ben Franklin and the Post Office interesting history

Posted in: NAP- Neighborhood Alliance of Pawtucket

Feb 20th was the 217th anniversary of the US Post Office-

George Washington started the Postal Sevices and for 1.40 in todays money, you could have a letter delivered up to 30 miles....but did you know Franklin did the surveying for the Post Road...our Route 1 and yes the Post road in many spots...
Franklin was the colonial postmaster but got sacked too for opening the mail of the then Massachusetts Royal Governor Hutchison...before we declared independence in 1776

That is very interesting and seems sad that we do not teach the RI history and share the Pawtucket history as much with young and old.

All these neat things that bring history alive...By the way for those who were there at the Oak Hill Nursing and Rehab Oak Hill Historical talk, you got the new Oak Hill booklet- walking tour also, but the many facts from Paul Mowrey and Joe Palmer were terrific insights as to what OakHill was like from the German tract to why Pidge and Ridge are separate but equal streets.

Interesting stuff, but maybe we should teach kids about our hometown and state...

Has anyone seen the Civil Rights stamps? Pretty cool with the pairing of some of the people...and still 42 cents...but May will see a change to 44 cents I think,,,,

Of course comparing 1.40 from years ago to now is still cheaper old or new dollars-
