It has been awhile since we have sent out information about what is going on with the budget and human services. We have been anxiously awaiting to see how this fiscal year is ending, and how fiscal year 2010 will begin.
The State of RI announced this week that the revenue estimate is behind by $200 million, on top of an already projected $300 million. This is dire news for many, particularly DD services; our legislators have already warned us that cuts will be deep and broad.
The DD agencies feel that we have sustained enough cuts; Perspectives alone cut their budget by $1.4 million. We will be engaging on a three week campaign to communicate to out legislators that we will not accept any more cuts... the campaign will include letter writing, phone calls and culminate in a rally on June 3 at the state house at 2 PM.
Please keep an eye out for future e-mails detailing each step of the campaign, as we need everyone's help in ensuring a future for quality services.
As always, feel free to e-mail me with any questions or comments- I check my e-mail everyday.
Thank you for your time.
