Long-serving Pawtucket mayor will not seek reelection

PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Six-term mayor James E. Doyle announced Wednesday morning that he will not seek re-election in November.

In a news release, Doyle said "it has been an honor and privilege to serve the residents of Pawtucket these past 13 years. I now believe that it is time for someone else to continue to work to move Pawtucket forward in these difficult times."

He thanked the city's residents for their support.

He said he wants to spend more time with his family.

Doyle was a city councilman before being elected mayor in 1997.
