Healthy Corner Store Volunteer Opportunities
Join community volunteers on Saturday, November 20th from 12-3pm to transform Ama's Variety Store (957 Main St, Pawtucket) into a healthy corner store!
With two store makeovers under our belt in Providence <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVpNOLiFMWA>, Ama's Variety Store in Pawtucket approached us to transform the store into a healthier place to shop. Join the Healthy Corner Store Initiative and other community volunteers to lend a hand at Ama's and witness the transformation for yourself! Volunteers are also needed in the next two weeks leading up to the makeover to conduct customer surveys and outreach in the neighborhood: 11/9, 11/14, 11/16, and 11/17 all from 4-6pm.
In the weeks after the makeover, make sure to support Ama's and stop by the store for cooking demonstrations and taste testings of new, tasty products. Visit www.ejlri.wordpress.com <http://www.ejlri.wordpress.com/> for more information and for an updated schedule of events at the store.
Please contact Amelia at 383-7441 or amelia.rose@ejlri.org <mailto:amelia.rose@ejlri.org> to volunteer or sign up to receive updates about the project.
The Healthy Corner Store Initiative <http://ejlri.wordpress.com/our-work/healthy-corner-store-initiative/> (HCSI) is a community campaign to add healthy options and variety to the food available at small markets in Providence and other Rhode Island cities. By working with storeowners, vendors, and local farms, the HCSI wants to make it easier for all families to find and cook healthy food. We help storeowners identify new products to sell, improve store layout to promote the healthiest items, and educate customers about how they can eat healthier. HCSI is a collaborative project led by the Environmental Justice League of Rhode Island (EJLRI), with the support of Farm Fresh RI, Kids First, and the RI Department of Health.
