Title:  Executive Director – Full Time

Organization: Woodlawn Community Development Corporation

Salary: $32,000-$36,400 depending on experience;   Paid Individual Healthcare

Job Description:

The Executive Director is responsible for the implementation of the strategic direction set by the Board and growth of the Woodlawn Community Development Corporation (WCDC).     Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director has overall responsibility for the planning, implementation, administration and management of all agency programs, services and systems.   The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors and the WCDC staff to plan and implement agency priorities, programs, and projects.

Incorporated in 2002, the WCDC is a non-profit neighborhood-based community development agency with the mission of improving the economic and social well-being of the Woodlawn Community in the City of Pawtucket, RI, with the emphasis on low-income residents, by empowering them through education, training, advocacy, and innovation.      Strategic areas include economic development, health, education, environment, neighborhood revitalization, and civic engagement/leadership.    The WCDC owns and operates the Woodlawn Community Center collaborating with a diverse set of community residents and agencies to develop programs and services which meet the needs of a diverse population.   Current program areas include youth development, adult education, health promotion, and economic development initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide staff assistance to the Board of Directors in developing and maintaining a vision and long-range plan.
  • Develop monthly Board meeting agendas in collaboration with the Board President and regularly provide information to the Board on Woodlawn CDC and Woodlawn Community Center activities.
  • Manage the growth, implementation and evaluation of all projects, programs, and activities.
  • Implement the fundraising plan, write and manage grants in conjunction with WCDC staff including corporate, foundation, government and individual fundraising components.
  • Maintain responsibility for the fiscal management of the organization including monitoring funds, paying bills, and developing and overseeing budgets.
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, training, management and evaluation of staff.
  • Develop and maintain community alliances including partnerships, collaborations, and other agency affiliations in both the private and public sectors.

Qualifications:

  • At least five years of experience in an organizational management leadership position as Director (including project, financial, administrative and personnel management.)
  • Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited college/university preferably in the areas of community development/planning; economic development; human services; business; or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven ability to provide strong strategic leadership to direct and expand the organization and its projects and programs.
  • Experience in program development, management and evaluation for youth and adults.
  • Proven ability to supervise, support and develop staff.
  • Record of successful fundraising including grant/proposal development from public and private sources.
  • Experience working with and staffing leadership bodies such as a Boards, community- based partnerships, steering and advisory committees.
  • Experience working with culturally and socio-economically diverse populations.
  • Strong reasoning skills, including the ability to solve day-to-day problems and the use of good judgment in dealing with a variety of issues as they arise.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Proven experience working with culturally and economically diverse populations.
  • Strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to interact and communicate with a wide array of audiences, including clients, staff, community residents, non-profits, businesses, funders, and city and state officials.
  • Enthusiastic self-starter.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and Web competency.
