What an amazing start! A message from Angelo Garcia, Founder/Head of School
Fortunate and grateful. These words best describe the Segue IFL community these days. Our year is off to an amazing start. We began with a $10,000 Shutterfly donation on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and a spectacular appearance by Ms. Viola Davis at the shared fundraiser for Segue and the Central Falls High School Drama Club. Let's not forget the Dunkin' Donuts fundraiser for Segue -- such a wonderful display of community support!
So proud of our scholars for the enthusiatic preparation and participation for NECAP testing. We're about to embark on our first charter renewal process -- hard to believe that our school is nearly five years old!
Our College Crusaders of Rhode Island are making great strides here on campus with Crusader scholars. Theatre classes are in full swing and our own Segue Falcons are in fine form - go team!
I cannot say enough about how proud I am of our students and teaching staff. We promised to start strong this year -- and indeed we have. Let's keep up the positive, upward momentum!

Thank you, Viola Davis!
On behalf of Segue, we are forever grateful to Viola Davis -- and to the community - for your attendance at the red carpet event! Ms. Davis' generous appearance at our "Celebration of Education" fundraiser at Veterans Memorial Auditorium generated a wealth of attention for our school, our teachers, and our commitment to students. The community support helped us raise critical funds for our many school initiatives. Thank you, thank you, thank you all! Here's a great news clip about her red carpet appearance at The Vets!

Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Melissa Lourenco, Director of Academic Support
As one of the Segue IFL founders, has your original vision become a reality?
It is extremely overwhelming to witness a dream, a vision, an idea come to life, and that is exactly what has happened with Segue. We envisioned a community school that would hold students and families to a high standard; one that would expect greatness from them and support them in their educational journey. Segue in 2012 is that and so much more. It is a place where students and staff grow and learn from one another. A place where each and every day holds a new beginning. It is a place where reflection occurs regularly because we all recognize the need to do whatever it takes to get our scholars ready to be leaders of their community and the global community. It is a place that started as a dream, and now houses the dreams of many.
What is your favorite part of the school day?
My absolute favorite part of the school day is any time someone takes a risk. I love hearing students and staff say things like: "I'll give it a try" or "Let's see if it works" or "Can you help me?" It's so important that students understand that learning is a lifelong process. When I see students and staff willing to try something new or asking for help, I know we're creating a community of learners. Learning is a process that extends beyond the four walls of a classroom. Our scholars are developing skills that will lead them to success in high school, college, and the workplace. It is exciting to see that modeled by our staff on a daily basis.
What’s the most memorable experience you’ve had since Segue was formed?
Aside from Ellen Degeneres saying "Segue," the most memorable experience I've had since Segue was formed was our first graduation back in June. It was a true celebration of education and hard work. We laughed. We cried. We knew we were not saying goodbye. Our 2012 graduates, the first in our school's history, have now gone on to high school. It is amazing to have witnessed their development as scholars and young women and men ready to take on the world. I think that, as a staff, we know that graduating from Segue is the start of a new beginning for them, and we are all very excited to see where their individual journeys take them...and we get to do it again next June with a new group of graduates.

Community Connections
Cheers to the Segue scholars, staff and families for your on-going commitment to civic responsibility and community engagement. We're really proving that civic engagement is a pillar of the school. Segue works with parents and the community to take ownership of student education.
