Beginning December 1 thru April 1, if there is a prediction of 2 or
more inches of snow, the City will declare a winter storm emergency and an on
street parking ban will take effect on all streets. All cars must be removed from the streets so that the plows can safely clear the roads in a timely manner. During the parking ban, cars are allowed to park in municipal lots throughout the City.
The cars must be removed within 2 hours of the ban being lifted or the
car could be towed and a fine of $100.00.
There is a map, listings and locations of off street parking allowed during a parking ban.
If your car is not removed from the street, you can face the possibility
of your car being towed. To find out if there is a parking ban you can call the Police Department and 727-9100 and dial extension 888 on the auto attendant to check on a parking ban. It will also be posted on the radio and
television broadcasts. Visit the city
website at www.pawtucketri.com .
Snow and Ice Removal
The City of Pawtucket has an ordinance that requires snow
and ice to be removed from sidewalks. It
is the responsibility of the owner, occupant or other person having the care of
any building or lot to keep the sidewalks safe and convenient by removing the
snow and ice intended for pedestrians not later than the first 12 hours of
daylight after the end of a snowstorm. If there is ice on the sidewalk, it must
be covered with sand or ice melt. Also it is not permitted to throw
or blow the snow into the streets or on another person’s property. The Zoning and Code Enforcement department
can issue fines for violations of the code.
The first offense is $25.00, the second is $50.00 and the third is
$100.00. This ordinance can be found in
Article 6 Section 351-20 and 351-21 on the City of Pawtucket Website under
ordinances. If you have any questions
you can call City Hall at 728-0500 and the extension for Zoning and Code
Enforcement is 254.
