STUDENT PLANNING SESSION FOR UPCOMING NONVIOLENCE EVENT

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 6, 3:30 TO 8:30 P.M., WOODLAWN CDC, PAWTUCKET

 

WHO:             About three dozen students from 8 public and parochial high schools in Pawtucket and Central Falls

WHAT:           Students are organizing their participation in an upcoming Nonviolence Event on March 14

WHEN:           Students and adult leaders will gather Tuesday, Feb. 6, from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

WHERE:         Woodlawn Community Development Center, 210 West Ave., Pawtucket

PHOTO OPS: Students have been cleared to speak with and be photographed by the media.

 

Approximately three dozen student leaders from 8 high school programs in Pawtucket and Central Falls will be instructed in issues of nonviolence, organize details of their participation, then return to their schools to recruit student support and participation for upcoming Nonviolence Event on Thursday, March 14 at an outdoor site in Pawtucket near the Central Falls line.

 

The high school programs with students participating in the training on Wednesday, Feb. 6 are:

Pawtucket: Alternative Learning Program (ALP), Bishop Keough Regional High School, Blackstone Academy, Jacqueline M. Walsh School for the Performing and Visual Arts, St. Raphael High School, Shea High School and Tolman High School.

Central Falls: Central Falls High School.

 

Note: The upcoming March 14 event is about the importance of nonviolence in general, particularly among young people and in schools.

[The March 14 event will feature remarks by students and the mayors and school leaders of both cities. It is being planned by community organizations in Pawtucket and Central Falls, with active support of Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien, Central Falls Mayor James Diossa, Pawtucket School Supt. Deborah Cylke, Central Falls School Supt. Francis Gallo, principals of each high school, and the Police Departments and students from both cities.]

 

Future Note: A first-ever, all-morning Parents Workshop on issues such as better communication with children, cyber-bulling, building healthy parent-child relationships and other topics is being planned by the same community organizations and city leaders for Saturday, March 9 at Jenks Junior High School in Pawtucket. Further details will be announced soon.

Join the planning at WCC- Peace March and Parents Conference every Tuesday at 9 & 10am for Youth March on March 14th and

Parents for “Peaceful Communities Conference'” on March 9th, 2013, starting at 8.30AM and ending at noon.  Parents from all the schools in Pawtucket & Central Falls area will be invited to the conference at Jenks Jr High. Registration required. Bus Transport available for CF parents from High School at approx 7:45am
