ACEP Highlights Palliative Care As Part of Choosing Wisely Campaign
The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) recently announced its list of five tests and procedures that should prompt discussion with patients. These recommendations are part of ACEP's participation in the "Choosing Wisely®" campaign.
The mission of "Choosing Wisely" - a multi-year effort of the ABIM Foundation - is to promote conversations among physicians and patients about using appropriate tests and treatments and avoiding care when harm may outweigh benefits.
Of note is one the five recommendations relating to palliative care: "Don't delay engaging available palliative and hospice care services in the emergency department for patients likely to benefit."
