The Anti-SLAPP bill, HB 02-1192 was passed out of committee after hearing witnesses testify for and against it on Tuesday, 12 Feb 2002.
The language in the bill was challenged by several people, the most important being some members of the Committee. They passed it out of committe by a majority of 1 vote, stating that it needs more work in order to stay alive on the floor of the House. If it is reworked and passes the House, it still must pass the Senate before it can be submitted to the Governor for signature into law.
Now is the time to call, email, write, or talk to each of your state congress people and strongly encourage them to fight FOR passage of a workable Anti-SLAPP law this session of the legislature. Already, three more states this past year have joined the ranks of those in the country who have passed such legislation. There are now 20.
