Don't know if any of you have been outside of our country or not, but one of the main consistencies you notice is that when a particular area tends to decline, the very inhabitants of that area are the primary cause of it's deterioration.  In other words: the inhabitants of that area are trashing themselves, no regard to their own space, general disregard to those around them.  This Labor Day weekend, my wife and I decided to "volunteer" our time to the community and clean up the island at the 59th street entrance.  No big deal, we have done so before.  We weeded, raked, picked up the trash and cleaned the gutters around the island.  Only about an hour and a half but when we were done, it looked pretty good.  When we were going to the store or something about an hour or so later we noticed someone had thrown a WhiteCastle cup with an empty bottle of water on the island.  Now keep in mind this was Labor Day weekend, no work, no unauthorized day care.  This had to be one of our own, or one of our kids or one of our kids friends.  I, for one don't care to live in the ghetto.  I will assume or presume most of you don't either.  Please report or confront any person, either a neighbor or visitor when you see them trashing our area.  It affects us all in our resale values or the caliber of people we draw to this area.  If you don't feel you should be the one to confront, inform our management company of the folks you see doing the infraction and they will do it, that is what we pay them for.  If we all sit back and do nothing, nothing will happen and we all will be affected.

Let me clarify something I didn't make clear last night.  The question of not being out of our country was meant to determine if any of you had ever experienced the other culthres where trash is a real problem.  In some other countries trash is a major problem, breeding disease, vermine etc..  Now most won't see that problem in a resort area, but go a few blocks off of the beaten path and you will find all kinds of bad stuff, raw sewage in the streets, rats, etc... Something I am seeing more and more in our own neighborhood, well not the raw sewage but I'd bet on a few rats.  Time to put an end to it.
