NLAC COMMITTEES:

Like most community volunteer groups, the North Linden Area Commission does most of its work through its committees. Here's a list of NLAC's permanent committees and the ways in which they work to serve you, our residents.
1.) The Executive Committee consists of the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer. They act together to prepare the agenda for regular meetings. They also plan the direction and scope of Commission activities.
2.) The Planning & Development Committee reviews and recommends long-range plans and investigates funding to implement these plans. It also develops methods for involving residents in planning activities and, lastly, maintains planning records.
3.) The Zoning Committee receives, reviews, and makes recommendations concerning applications for rezoning, variances, and special permits for property located in North Linden.
4.) The Community Service Committee has a rather lengthy and somewhat ambitious agenda as follows:
a.) Review social and recreational services in the area and take appropriate action to improve or maintain them.
b.) Attempt to improve or maintain employment and education opportunities for area residents.
c.) Monitor consumer/business relations.
d.) Initiate, coordinate or assist at community-wide events.
e.) Work to develop a community identity.
f.) Work to improve the quality of life for all our residents.
g.) Publicize the NOrth Linden Area Commission as a community resource.
5.) The Code Enforcement Committee reports known code violations in the North Linden Commission area to the appropriate Code Enforcement officer of the City of Columbus. They also try to become knowledgable about code enforcement problems and make constructive suggestions about remedying them. Finally, the Committee may undertake programs to educate the community about code enforcement issues.
6.) Last but definitely not least is the Safety Committee which coordinates and/or initiates efforts to reduce crime in the community. This Committee may also work, either alone or with groups, to do the following:
a.) Initiate or help with efforts to maintain a clean community.
b.) Initiate or assist with efforts to control conditionswhich interfere with the health of residents.
c.) Initiate or assist with efforts to alleviate vehicular traffic problems.
The best thing about these committees is that only one, the Executive Committee, is reserved for Commissioners only. Any North Lindener is welcome to join any of the other committees. Would you like to join one? If so, we would be delighted to have you.

North Linden Area Commission Information

The North Linden
The North Linden Area Commission (NLAC) is one of thirteen “area commissions” in the city of Columbus. Area Commissions are city-chartered volunteer organizations formed to bring neighborhoods into closer contact with Columbus City government agencies and activities. They afford residents of Columbus additional voluntary citizen participation in decision-making through an advisory capacity and facilitate communication, understanding, and cooperation between neighborhood groups, city officials, and developers.
The NLAC was organized in the summer of 1988 to represent the territory bounded by Cooke and Ferris Roads on the north, the railroad easement along Westerville Road to the east, Hudson Street on the south, and the railroad tracks west of I-71 on the west. It consists of 15 members, at least 10 of whom must be residents of the commission area. Four at-large members as well as one appointed by the Mayor are not
required to live in North Linden. Ten of the commission’s present members are North Linden residents, with the others having close ties to the area.
The NLAC meets the third Wednesday of each month at the Linden Park Recreation Center at 1254 Briarwood Avenue. Meetings begin at 7:00pm. The public is always welcome and visitors are encouraged to voice their opinions and concerns.
Issues and activities are divided among five standing committees: Code Enforcement, Community Service, Planning and Development, Safety, and Zoning. You do not need to be a commissioner to serve on one of these committees.
As an advisory body, no actions of the North Linden Area Commission may invalidate the actions of Columbus City Council. However, the commission’s recommendations receive significant consideration from the council.
