Urban Infrastructure Recovery Fund

The Urban Infrastructure Recovery Fund was established in1992 to address capital improvement needs in central city neighborhoods. The UIRF program improves the infrastructure in an area, which serves as an indicator to the health and vitality of the neighborhood. These are often improvements overlooked within the traditional capital improvements planning process. The fund is designed as a means to undertake basic infrastructure repair and improvement projects that can be completed during a one to two year time frame
The UIRF staff located in the Housing and Community Services section of the City?’s Trade and Development coordinates the UIRF project selection process. This process combines input form the UIRF Advisory Committee made up of community leaders and the URIF Working Group of city staff representing various departments. The North Linden Area Commission UIRF Advisor is Florence Beathard.
The UIRF program could fund improvements such as: City right-of way improvements, Curb replacement, Lighting, Resurfacing heavily traveled alleys, Neighborhood identity items, Improvements near Schools, Sidewalk on heavily traveled streets, Street trees, Traffic Calming, and Park improvements.
A few neighborhood improvement that have been funded by the UIRF program in the North Linden Area Commission area within the last few years are traffic calming circles on Dresden Ave. and a sidewalk on Como Ave. for Come Elementary student safety.
