February 21, 2007
LOCATION: Linden Recreation Center
PRESENT: Danny Popp, Richard Korn, John Warhol, Donzella Edgerton, Beth Klukoske, Kinsey Jackson, Yolanda Porter, Walt Reiner, Jim Schwochow,
EXCUSED: Irene Radcliff, Werner Rase, and Madeleine Trichel

PROCEEDINGS
Chairman Popp called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. and read the minutes of the January meeting.
MINUTES ACCEPTED as corrected: Yolanda Porter was present; and the 2006 date was changed to 2007. The spelling of Mr. Schwochow¡¦s name was corrected. (Moved: Korn; Seconded: Edgerton).
NEW BUSINESS
The commission discussed a list of proposed activities for 2007. These included
1. Neighborhood Clean-ups, six suggested
2. Abandonded buildings: John Warhol and Isom Nivins would enlist Code Enforcement to deal with such properties between 11th Avenue and Myrtle. The city looks for clusters of abandoned buildings, and Greg Davies has been given a list of twelve.
3. The Commission discussed the benefits and disadvantages of orange signs placed on houses by Code Enforcement. Some believe the signs invite break-ins and theft.
4. Linden Area promotional brochure and related topics. Mr. Nivins¡¦ new intern will take photos for a revised brochure and will highlight the Columbus Alternative High School. Other locations suggested: Federson Park, Oakland Nursery, Columbus City building on Carolyn Avenue, and Crew Stadium. Mr. Schwochow requested an update on the status of signs at North Linden.
5. Grants: North Linden will apply for a $4,000 landscaping grant to improve sites suggested by residents. March 16 is the deadline for Neighborhood Partnership and Arts Council grants.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Safety: Noted efforts of off-duty police officers involved in security lighting for the homes of elderly residents.

Community Service: Reminded Commissions of CRC coupons for $15. for the Linden Center; called for the Area Commission to request student assistance with clean-up Community Days before school dismisses in June.

Code Enforcement: Beth Klukoske suggested that Code Enforcement deal with continued maintenance compliance at addresses where the Commission has cleaned alleys and has sent letters advising of the same. Guest Paula Burleson asked for specific North Linden goals for March, June and other dates together with assessment of follow-through on the goals.

Planning and Development: Reminder to attend March 14 and April 11 United Way Academies

Capital Improvements:
Attracting business to North Linden: Suggestions included NCR Zones, bus lines, and progress on traffic management plans. Mr. Nivins stated that there will be money for sidewalks in 2008. For the next meeting Commissioners are asked to bring a list of areas such as schools needing sidewalks.
Improvements to Linden: a new Middle Eastern restaurant at the Southwest corner of McGuffey and Hudson; a day care center in the mini-mall at 25th and Cleveland. Commissioners are concerned with the future of the the Southwest corner of McGuffey and Weber.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Steve Sabol of COTA requests participation in 3 sessions to gather ideas for improved mass transit and transit centers. These sessions will take place
