Upcoming Restrictions
Beginning April 19, the southbound I-17 loop entrance ramp for drivers traveling westbound on Deer Valley Road will be closed for approximately one year while the interchange is re-constructed at this location. The other southbound entrance ramp at Deer Valley Road will be accessible during the loop ramp closure.

In addition, I-17 southbound will be closed overnight on April 19 from Pinnacle Peak Road to Rose Garden Lane for workers to install temporary concrete barriers and lane striping for the I-17 widening project.

Beginning April 26, the northbound I-17 exit ramp at Deer Valley Road will be permanently closed to improve traffic flow on I-17 near the system interchange with Loop 101. Following the closure, drivers will be able to exit I-17 northbound at Rose Garden Lane and use the northbound frontage road to access Deer Valley Road.

More information about these closures and alternate routes will be available in upcoming traffic alerts.

Other restrictions are planned this week on I-17 and on Carefree Highway for interchange and widening projects.

All I-17 improvement projects from Loop 101 to Carefree Highway are scheduled for completion in 2009. Once improvements are underway to Carefree Highway, construction will begin this winter on widening I-17 to Anthem Way.

These projects are some of the first elements of the Regional Transportation Plan for Maricopa County and are funded through a voter-approved sales tax to improve and construct new roads throughout the Valley during the next 20 years. More information on the Regional Transportation Plan is available at http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001GgqIl-7lJko6NVbjnhlIasQ5gNuzicXTPutPk8BYxv9--q1swQm9BXCYF1UgeG0RmAETJvFIksRK655BlBrJhgYgrLPUbQoFh4507a1cBtOMskF2UldWNWKEm_yW9Ge-.

Here's an overview of scheduled restrictions on Interstate 17:

Interstate 17 from Happy Valley Road to Skunk Creek
Thursday, April 3 - Friday, April 4
9 p.m. - 5 a.m.
I-17 will be restricted to one lane in each direction during overnight hours from Thursday night until Friday morning while workers install temporary concrete barriers for construction of the Skunk Creek bridge.

Interstate 17 at Dove Valley Road
Sunday April 6 - Monday, April 7
10 p.m. - 5 a.m.
I-17 will be restricted to one lane in each direction at Dove Valley Road during overnight hours from Sunday night until Monday morning for work on the Dove Valley Road bridge.

Interstate 17 at Carefree Highway (State Route 74)
Monday, April 7 - Tuesday, April 8
9 p.m. - 5 a.m.
The southbound I-17 off-ramp will be closed at Carefree Highway during overnight hours from Monday night until Tuesday morning for work on the Carefree Highway interchange. Drivers can use the Happy Valley interchange as an alternate route.

Interstate 17 from Rose Garden Lane to Pinnacle Peak Road
Saturday, April 19 - Sunday, April 20
10 p.m. - 9 a.m.
I-17 will be closed southbound at Pinnacle Peak Road for work to prepare for the I-17 widening project. Traffic on I-17 will be detoured onto the Pinnacle Peak off-ramp and the southbound frontage road and will enter I-17 at Rose Garden Lane. Drivers can use 19th or 35th avenues as alternate routes to access Loop 101.

Interstate 17 from Rose Garden Lane to Happy Valley Road
The I-17 frontage roads will be restricted to one lane for construction of the new frontage roads and I-17 widening project. This restriction will be in place through early summer.

Carefree Highway from I-17 to North Valley Parkway
Carefree Highway, just east of I-17, will be restricted to one lane westbound through early 2008 for work related to the reconstruction of the Carefree Highway interchange.

Drivers should anticipate minor delays and allow extra time, or adjust travel schedules to avoid closures and restrictions. ADOT appreciates your patience as we construct these improvements on I-17.

While ADOT strives to inform the public about planned freeway restrictions, during any complex construction project, there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Please visit our Web site for the most current information about planned I-17 restrictions.
