At 1:18 am Saturday morning 12/30, I was awakened by a strange sound outside, when it dawned on me it was footsteps crunching in the snow outside. I jumped up, yanked up my blinds and opened my bedroom window (upstairs), looked down to the patio below to see footprints leading up to my den door, then leading away around the corner of my house. After turning on all outside lights, my son and I went out on the deck to look down to the yard below. We live at 5913 Woodlands Ave, the next to the last house on the right, we are the middle house in the little spot where there are 3 houses at the top of the hill, between Woodlands and Maplesong. There were clearly two sets of large footprints leading up from Maplesong, thru my backyard and up to the patio, even leaving snow on the steps. They then led away from the steps and between our house and our neighbors in the last house, 5917. We called the police who were as certain as we are that someone had been here. My son heard a small rattling noise like that of a door knob after the weird sound of the snow crunching. Whoever was here probably went up the gravel road at the top of the hill. I wouldn't let my son go that far to check for footprints, and my husband was out of town.
The officers who came told me that the problem last Wednesday night, when the police helicopter kept circling between the Woodlands and Valley Brook with the spotlight, was that up at Valley Brook a man held a gun to his girlfriend, the police came, and he ran off thru the woods. There is a trail off the gravel road up here that leads straight to the dead end street at VB, either Zermatt or Swiss, I'm not sure. They received a call from a resident on Magnolia reporting someone under his deck, saying his dog was barking at something and he could see a shape moving around that was someone besides his dog. Unfortunately, the policewoman was then called away on another call, and never heard if they caught that person.
Please, dear neighbors, be aware of this situation. Take safety precautions and let's all be sure to look out for one another.
