Traffic Calming Committee

Hasn't that bump gotten better?

I thought Metro had smoothed it out some with their last paving. Whatever, it sounds like something we need to keep, since it serves as something of a "gotcha" for speeders.

Sad thing is, if you start checking into it I'll bet you'll find that most of the speeders are Sylvan Park residents.

48th & Wyoming

48th & Wyoming
Though I can empathize with the concerns of excess speed on 48 & Nevada. I strongly believe that 48th & Wyoming deserve more attention (4 Way Stop) for several reasons. Primarily this is the closest thoroughfare with a cross street to the elementary school. Secondly, the dip in fornt of Syvan Park Freewill Baptist church is so steep that cars often look like "Starky & Hutch"as they hit it. I have personally witnessed cars almost becoming air born as they fly over the hump. My property is just west of the hump and needless to say we park the nicer car in the driveway. I fear that it is just a matter of time before someone is hurt or killed on Wyoming. For now my only recourse is to yell at the speeders and train my Golden Retriever to stay out of the street. Now if only the cats she loves to chase would learn.
Please feel free to e-mail me with comments.

Subject: Keep Kids Alive Drive 25 Traffic Safety Campaign

Doug:

Hello from Omaha!

I am writing as a result of your link with neighborhoodlink.

During the past year I have e-mailed information about our new traffic safety campaign, Keep Kids Alive Drive 25?™, to city and county officials, as well as neighborhood associations, watch groups, school districts and PTAs throughout the United States. This communication is to keep community leaders up to date with how Keep Kids Alive Drive 25?™ continues to grow.

Keep Kids Alive Drive 25?™ is designed to encourage motorists to observe the residential speed limit. In most towns and cities across the U.S., the residential limit is 25 mph. Thus the slogan, "Keep Kids Alive Drive 25?™." After one year Keep Kids Alive Drive 25?™ has grown into a campaign with contacts working on developing local initiatives in over 200 cities and towns representing 41 states. We are working to grow Keep Kids Alive Drive 25?™ into a nationally recognized campaign that simply calls all drivers to slow down in our neighborhoods for our kids' sake.

To date Keep Kids Alive Drive 25?™ has developed into community initiatives in Columbus, OH, Tucson, AZ, Tinton Falls, NJ, Bollingbrook, IL, Toledo, OH, Florence, AL, San Antonio, TX, Lynchburg, VA, Wichita, KS, Omaha, NE, Waterloo, NE, Adams, NE, Arapahoe, NE, Springfield, NE, LaVista, NE, Monroe, WA, Novi, MI, Kirkland, WA, St. Petersburg, FL, Medford (Jackson County), OR, Lincoln, NE, Oceanside, CA, and Danville, CA. Plans are on the board to adopt Keep Kids Alive Drive 25?™ in Providence, RI, Phoenix, AZ, Manhattan Beach, CA, Milpitas, CA, Westminster, CO, Maumelle, AR, Reno, NV, Ottawa County, MI, Glendora,CA, Kalamazoo, MI, San Mateo, CA, Carteret, NJ, Rochester Hills, MI, Centerville, OH, Hastings, NE, James City County, VA, Ashland, OR, Golden, CO, and Medina, OH. We are also developing a new initiative that targets neighborhoods with 20mph speed limits.

In the majority of cities and towns, our campaign has taken root through the efforts of local law enforcement agencies, city officials (councils, mayors, traffic engineers), neighborhood associations and watch groups, and pedestrian safety groups.

You can find more information on our web site, www.keepkidsalive.com. If you would be interested in helping get the word out about Keep Kids Alive Drive 25?™ to neighborhoods throughout your community or if you would like to initiate the campaign in your neighborhood, I would welcome the opportunity to hear from you. You can contact me at 402-334-1391 or at eversont@gateway.net. We also welcome web site links to help get the word out.

Thanks for your consideration.
