Trash at Main Entrance

Posted in: Hickory Hills
Why is there so much garbage at the entrance of Hickory Hills (the entire drive from the stop sign at Maricourt to Lebanon Road) and who is responsible for cleaning this up? I'm sure that we could find SOMEONE to clean it up every few days with the homeowners association fees we all pay. Isn't that why we are paying them???

I agree 100%, and have often wondered the exact same thing.

It is my understanding that no, that is not why we pay the dues, because someone else owns the property coming down into the subdivision on Devonshire, and that person is John Coleman Hayes. He is the original developer of the neighborhood, and he does not pay a penny for the upkeep of his property, so your dues do not effect that property whatsoever. However, there is a maintenance company that comes once a week to pick up garbage along the entrance, and your neighbors, slobs that they are, dirty it faster than it can be picked up. Anytime you feel the need to pitch in, please feel free to grab some garbage bags and some gloves, and see how quickly after you pick up there is garbage there.

I appreciate the response, however, there has been a box of beer with broken beer bottles thrown everywhere by one of the trees - and it's been sitting there for quite a while. That's one thing I see every time - along with all the other garbage.

Just because someone else owns the property, why couldn't the HOA hire someone to clean it up more often? After all, it's what we have to drive through every time we leave and come home....and what all of our visiting friends and family see as well. It would be nice to have a clean neighborhood to be proud of.

I'm not opposed to helping out in the neighborhood, and maybe if I kept my $300 a year, I would grab a garbage bag or two. It'd just be nice to see our $$ at work...$300 per house, multiplied by 600 homes, that's $180,000 per year - an awful lot of money to upkeep two pools and a pond and some flowers by the entrance, but yet we can't get someone to clean up the trash.
