Lane Shifts - Negative

Posted in: Kenner Manor
Some need to ''get a life''

The boundaries of the ''neighborhood'' have been redrawn several times because it was evident early on that residents who didn't live on Kenner could care less about attending ''neighborhood association'' meetings and listening to small time politico wannabees prattle on about how they could save us from the Kenner traffic. The best way to reduce the speed of traffic on Kenner is (and was) to park on both sides of the street. It is obvious that anything that limits such parking will speed up traffic. It is also obvious that if you buy a house one block off of a major intersection, you can expect cut-thru traffic at peak hours. The government can't protect you if you aren't savvy enough to figure that out. Please stop the meetings and goofy engineering ''solutions.'' Or, just call it the Kenner Neighborhood Association and drop all other streets off the mailing list--the residents of the other streets would rather stay at home and listen to music or have a glass of wine than go to an idiot ''neighborhood association'' meeting just to make sure something really screwy isn't being proposed by the hyperactive crew one block off of Harding.
NES Stripes Roads?

WOW- NES came through here last year and cut the trees real good! Now they are stripinjg the street to match the fine tree work!
Concerned

My wife and I have tried to be actively involved in the neighborhood association. We commend the efforts of those who have volunteered hours upon hours of their personal time. However, we are concerned by lane shifts. We definitely agree with some of the prior comments especially ''kenner is less safe now'' which made some great points. It appears the speed problems on the street have only gotten worse. In the last five years we have lived on the street, we have enjoyed walking and running without feeling in danger. Lately, it is difficult to enjoy these activities without feeling guarded or worried for our safety.

We were under the impression that if the majority of residents did not like the lane shifts, that they would be removed. Thank you for providing a forum for us to give our opinions.
Safety Concerns

My primary concern with the current traffic calming measure is safety. The newly drawn lanes result in cars traveling very close to front lawns. I for one am now extremely cautious when I get my mail and fearful that I could be hit. Also, the new lanes restrict pedestrian traffic to the point where I do not believe it is safe to walk on Kenner during certain times of the day.
