Can I Have ''Too Many'' Pets?

Posted in: White Lake Hills
According to city code, no more than 3 dogs and 3 cats may be housed in one residence. This law was eatablished to protect animals and residents.

All animal must have a permit. This can be obtained from your vet. This is called a city license.

If you choose to have more pets. there is a process. Residents can file for a permit to keep more than the allowed number of animals ($10.00 filing fee.) After filing for the permit a hearing will be set to determine whether conditions in the house are apppropriate for the owner, the animals, and the residents.

To report violations or to ask for assistance with animal problems, contact the Fort Worth Animal Care and Control Division at 827-392-3737.

You can have a total of three dogs and/or three cats that are not spayed or neutered.  All animals must be vaccinated to get the city license.

Earlier in the code, in fact the first paragraph of the code states:

(a)     Except as provided by this section, no residence within the city shall house more than three (3) dogs and three (3) cats over the age of eight (8) weeks. It shall be an affirmative defense to prosecution under this Section 6-11(a) that any cats in excess of three (3) are Feral Cats in the City's Trap, Neuter, and Return Program.
