Well, I'm surprised there are no inputs from the staff, particularly on deleted posts but headers remained.  Let me reply to own post to see if this thread would pump to top of the page for everyone to see.

Hi James - sorry it's taken me a couple of days to follow up here; I've been working on "ease of navigation" issues (stuff over there in the left column) and site speed (new hardware is on the way).

Regarding post headers remaining - that's intentional.  In our old system, if a thread had one bad post but several good followups, you couldn't get rid of the bad without getting rid of the good as well.  Now, individual posts can be deleted... it's more clear who posted something bad and it's clear to new visitors that there's a moderator present and that things need to be kept civil if they're going to stay up.

As far as anonymous posting - sounds like you've got a great neighborhood!  This was a huge problem for many of our neighborhoods.  l'd have to check with Susan to be sure but I believe it was the #1 source of complaints & conflicts in the discussion areas.  Seems like the more anonymous people are, the less likely they are to be tactful or think before they speak.

It sounds like some neighborhoods are interested in a more closed, moderator-controlled discussion area as an alternative to the "open for all" model we've had up till now and I expect anonymous posting could be less of a problem on such sites.  We're working on something along those lines - stay tuned.
