Mother Beaten and Left for Dead
A local mother was beaten so badly that even her own daughter couldn't recognize her. Now police need your help to find the person responsible for this vicious attack.
With the help of her mother, Sunni Swain is starting her life over again ... learning to talk and take care of herself after a violent criminal left her for dead.
Sue Swain, Victim's Mother: ''No one should have to face this, no family. This has been horrible for her, her daughter, and it's been a nightmare for our family.''
A nightmare that began January 9th at this apartment in Obetz. Whoever did this smashed a glass door to get into the apartment.
Police believe it started out as a burglary. But then it turned vicious. Sunni was asleep in her home when she was beaten and raped. Her jaw and cheekbone shattered. She spent nine days in a coma...and three months in the hospital. ''I don't know how anyone could do this to any human. It was one of the worst crime scenes that I've ever worked in my career.'' Detective Terry Evans of the Obetz Police Department is hoping for a break in the case.
Sunni doesn't remember anything about the attack. But police believe this was not a random crime. It's likely that Sunni knew the person who almost killed her.
Det. Terry Evans, Obetz Police: ''Why else would they pick that one particular apartment you know. I think there is somebody out there who knows what happened.'' ''We have to find out who done this. If it happened to my child it could happen to someone else's child.'' Central Ohio Crimestoppers is offering a $2,000 reward. If you know who assaulted Sunni Swain....call 645-TIPS.
