Hi all. My husband and I are house hunting and seriously looking at moving into the Turtle Cove Community. We have 3 small girls (5,2&1). I came across this forum and am hoping that some of the residents can guide us in our decision. We would be relocating from Rex (Clayton County) and are looking for that slower country life. We have absolutely got to remove or daughters from the insanity that has become Clayton county. What are the schools like in the area? Demographics? Bus routes? How child friendly is the Community? I have read some of the discussion boards so far and it sounds to me like the community (like the rest of the country) is feeling the effects of the recession. However, there are still a good number of residents that care enough to try to hold it together. Am I accurate? Thanks for your time and any guidance/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As a former Clayton County resident (Jonesboro), my advice is to run to Turtle Cove as fast as possible. Though its amenities are somewhat antiquated, they are still a definite perk. The lake is hardly crowded with the exception being holidays and has numerous "resident only" beaches. Piedmont Academy (private school pre-k thru 12) is wonderful. Their extracurricular academic activities receive the same gusto and excitement as their sport programs. The public primary schools are well funded with plenty of staff (and adjacent to a fire station for the pubescent arsonist).

The only cons that may impact your decision is the recent string of home break-ins, (my home received damage to two deadbolts and 3 door handles, no breach occurred) and the aversion to slow speeds some cars experience.

Come on down! Enjoy the green space! ...and if you smell someone grilling delicious burgers, come say hello!

I too are looking at the Turtle Cove community to move to.  How serious were the break-ins?  Were they during the day or at night, more home invasion style?  Is there a crime problem around Lake Jackson and Turtle Cove?  Any light that you can shed would be very helpful.

Like every communtiy turtle cove has teens who stay out late and break in house. We now have a 12:00am in time which keeps the crime down. There kids and they need rules I and a parnet with a small child he's 5. I have lived in turtle cove for 6 almost 7 years and its nice and quiet. If your looking for a small town that lets you have your space then this is it move in you will get a great house for lease. The local school is great my KG is reading and spelling colors. The club house has children party and the pool is kid friendly. Just keep in mind its a drive to everything.
