Perhaps not everyone is aware that there have been a couple of incidents which involved police calls around the 1109 area of the road from the "druggie" places since our (as far as I know) one and only Norton Street meeting.
About three weeks ago in the late afternoon some people from the "bad" house on the hill across from us had a very loud altercation in the street between two women and three or four men. The women were screaming at each other, the men trying to break it up and - sad to say - a child or two in a car watching and listening to every filthy word. Anyway, the police were called and the first squad arrived within minutes. In all, there were seven squads which arrived on the scene and most of them stayed for probably close to two hours. One was a K-9 squad and they took the dog sniffing around the house and then inside. I don't believe anyone was arrested - but the people who lived in the house on the hill moved out at the end of June. HOORAY!
Last night we were watching Letterman when we heard shouting coming from in front of our house. We looked out and saw a young man standing on the sidewalk who was arguing with another man who was standing next to the open door of a car at the end of our neighbor's driveway. We watched and listened for several minutes as they continued to shout back and forth (although they were not getting physical). Since it didn't seem as though it was going to end, we again called the police. A minute later, the men in the car drove off, but the man on the sidewalk went and sat on our neighbor's steps. A squad arrived within five minutes and, after talking with the young man and two more men who came up to talk with the police from closer to the northern end of the block, took the young man off in the squad car. Don't know if they arrested him or just took him home.
It's wonderful that we get such a fast response when we call the police. Sure does make a person feel safer!!!
How are things progressing at the other end of Norton?
