I saw a dark skinned male that appeared to be about 6st to 8th grade a couple of yards from my patio window aiming a dark greyish black pistol at the woods behind my house. He was wearing a long red tea shirt that came to about mid thigh and baggy dark grey shorts, and he was thin. I think that parents should talk with their children about this sort of thing, as it is very dangerous. No one can know if that is a real gun or a toy, but it looked real to me. Do parents keep their guns locked up when they are gone to work? A lot of fishy things go on around here between the time kids get home from school and before the parents get home from work. If someone would return fire, and miss the child they were aiming at, they could actually injure someone in a house that is not even involved in their skirmish. Also, it would be good if other children in the neighborhood would report to their parents anything like this that they notice. Has anyone else observed this sort of thing?

Next time don't wait
Dear annonymous, next time please don't hesitate to call the police. Let me repeat myself, do not hesitate to call the police!! I don't care if the child has white or black skin, call the police! Basically, here is the situation, some parents aren't available due to work or whatever to constantly monitor their children or even give that child a good shot at being a parent. The only way we as a group can cause that parent to be a parent is to call the police on the child that they are not parenting in an effort to make them be a parent. I realize this shouldn't be our job, but when it is allowed to come to this level of non involvement where people feel threatened by the child they choose to not parent, then it is time they are held responsible for their inability to control their child. CALL THE POLICE, AND KEEP CALLING THE POLICE.

police call
Actually, I did call 911 and described the situation-I also let them know that I wasn't sure if the gun was real or a toy. This is the second time I've seen someone in my backyard with a gun of some sort-the last time it was a light blue pistol. Someone told me there is a type of pistol that is a real gun that is light blue, but I didn't know that until a lot later.
I'm not sure about the outcome of the situation-I know that kids are usually more difficult to track, since they don't follow a conventional path-they cut back and forth through yards and the woods, so by the time the police arrive, the child is not there.
I called once before on a child that appeared to be in the 6th grade that had a rifle and was sitting cross legged on the ground at the Oakforge Entrance. I was leaving, and the School bus was right behind me. When I called back to see what happened, the police officer said he didn't see the child. I'm betting another child got off the bus, and met with this child and they evidently went somewhere not visible from the road.
