We’d like to highlight Sara Fennell as the Volunteer of the Month! Sara Fennell, representing Wild Patch Gardens, has been a huge support to the Adopt-A-Site program this month. She has recently adopted 3 tree sites and completed maintenance at two of them this month. Additionally, Sara was a huge help setting up for Creek ReLeaf prior to the event in November. Thank you, Sara!!

We’ll also finish the week with our Big Spring Clean where we’ll host several stream cleaning events around the county. Spring is one of the busiest times for Adopt-A-Stream. Be sure to get your clean-up dates in early to reserve supplies for your team!
The Adopt-A-Stream program is a great opportunity to get your community involved in improving the health of streams and keeping an eye out for potential surface water pollution. While there are many volunteers working hard to collect tons of trash from streams each year, there are many stream segments that are still available for adoption all around the county. Many segments along Ramah, Clarke, Long, Clear, and Coffey Creek are available and in need of some TLC. If you would like to see what other segments are available near you, check out our Adopt-A-Stream Map and visit us at our Volunteer page to find out how to get involved.

Adopt-A-Site for Tree Maintenance |
Each year Storm Water Services partners with the Charlotte Public Tree Fund to plant trees that help reforest the floodplain. Did you know that these sites are available for your team to adopt? Maintaining these tree sites helps them survive longer, while also slowing erosion in the floodplain, and providing healthier habitat for wildlife. Adoption requires that you visit your tree site at least twice a year to prune, remove invasive species, and provide any other maintenance needed at your tree site. If you have a team interested in the Adopt-A-Site program reach out to STW-Volunteers@MeckNC.gov.
