Water Testing Scam Reported

Posted in: Suggs Park
Did everyone see their water bill insert this month?

It had an article that said the following:

''The City has had reports of people claiming to be City employees asking to come into houses to get a water sample.''

They said that this is usually just a ploy used by salespeople trying to sell water filtration systems. But they wanted us to know that allowing access to your home to strangers can pose a real danger!

The City wants us to know that all City employees have a badge, ID card or other identification and field personnel drive marked City vehicles.

The City also went ahead to say that our City water supply is monitored and tested by City laboratory techs at the water treatment plants long before it arrives at our own homes. You can be sure that the water coming from you faucet is safe and does not need testing!

If anyone contacts you saying they're a City employee and wish to gain access into your home, you should not allow them inside your home. You should call 911 and report this person.

You can also call the Utility Customer Service at 297-2833 if you have any questions about your water service or quality.

Again.....do not allow a stranger into your home just because they say they are a city employee!

Be safe always!

Telephone calls

I've gotten a couple of telephone calls from people asking about my water quality. I ended those calls quickly by just telling them that our city sends us regular updates on the quality of our city's water. They seem to be wanting to get into my house just to sell me a water system. Thanks to your information I knew what they were up to and nipped it in the bud quickly. Thanks for the great heads up.

Water Call

I received a call from a water testing company who wanted to come out and test my water. The young man informed me that some of my neighbors were also having their water tested. I asked who and he named two women with addresses on the other side of NW 50th Street. I told him the city reported to me about the condition of the water and I had no complaints. I asked him if he ever read the paper and that it had warned us about people like him. He said he was only 19 and didn't really read the paper.

Again folks, beware of these guys who are just out to test your water and SELL you something you don't need.

Did you hear?

On the evening news on Sept. 12, 2006, there was a report about two men going house to house in a neighborhood just off May to the south of us and these men were asking for entrance to ''test the water quality of the homes''. This was in one of the more Hispanic neighborhoods targeted, the report said, because it might prove to be an easier access for the con-artists.

Just want to make our Suggs Park residents aware that this scam is still ongoing and pops up every few months or so!

Under no circumstances should you allow anyone to come inside your home to ''test your water quality''. The City of OKC does an excellent job of doing that without invading our homes!

Turn these con-artists away! Call 911 and report you've had a visit and are concerned they are in your neighborhood and visiting other homes.
