Years ago when the house was built and our family moved in, (1964), our address was"312-X,RFD#3, Middlebush, NJ.
Then came the building boom. The farmland and woods were replaced by single family houses, condos, kit houses, and pre-manufactured houses. While that was going on, the USPO decided to build a new PO in the center of Middlebush. After that was done, our addresses were changed. No more nutty house numbers, and no more rural delivery route designation. They also took away our Middlebush designation, and made us part of Somerset.
Progress. The city was going to put in a road between Gates and Ellison roads which would give the owners the opportunity to cut their properties in half, to sell. We did not want that. This little neighborhood stuck together and the township approved for us to keep the road out, and allow our property to remain the way we bought it.
We like no sidewalks. We like gardens. We like having our God's Little Acre.
