Old North Dayton Neighborhood Association Creates Goals for Year

The Old North Dayton Neighborhood Association created some exciting goals for the year at the February 8, 2005 meeting. "The diverse range of goals shows how important the neighborhood is to the association," Vice-President Joshua West said.

The goals of the Old North Dayton Neighborhood Association include, increasing neighborhood awareness through crime watch and block party activities, getting involved with the neighborhood schools through outreach programs, developing a collobrative project with the McCook Field Neighborhood Association, and assisting the safety and service departments of the city by increasing representation of neighborhood assistance officers and sponsoring the Dayton Fire Department's bear program.

Jerry Bowling III, the McCook Field Neighborhood Association President, said that working with Old North Dayton is one of his organization's goals for the year. The two neighborhoods often have the same issues compared to the other northeast neighborhoods and it is a good idea that the two neighborhoods work together.

Cops Nite Out A Success

The annual Cops Nite Out proved to be a success. The Old North Dayton Neighborhood Association received a report from several members that attended the annual dinner and gathering.

Cops Nite Out, an annual event sponsored by several area organizations, including the Old North Dayton Neighborhood Association, is a small token of appreciation to the men and women of who serve as officers of the local police departments.

Everyone had a good time and the officers appreciated the gathering. This was the first time that Cops Nite Out was held without co-founder and neighbor, Mike Rash, who passed away late last year. A tribute to Mike was held during the event.

Police Department Reports Crime Is Down

Sergeant Yaney, of the Dayton Police First District, attended the February 8, 2005 meeting and reported that crime is down in the First District, including Old North Dayton.

Reported cases of criminal activity was down 8% in the district, including decreases in all major crime categories.

Drug use and distribution continues to be a problem that Lieutenant Wilhelm is striving to beat. Knock and advises are being conducted by officers on a regular basis in the First District, resulting in hundreds of nuisanced structures and people.
