Where's Schaffer on These?

Conditions embarrass this lifelong Ohioan
Friday, February 03, 2006

After the Jan. 22 Dispatch article ''State of rust,'' I just had to send in a letter!

Ohio now has the great distinction of being one of the highest-tax states in the country, near the top in the number of bankruptcies and foreclosures and a leader in unemployment.

Ohio also has unscrupulous mortgage lenders with few laws to protect the unsuspecting homebuyer, homebuilders with unethical lending practices and, to sum it all up, unethical leadership.

No wonder crooked businesses survive here and no wonder many legitimate businesses refuse to come to Ohio to set up shop.

I have been an Ohioan all my life and now I feel like running, not walking, to the nearest border, but not to Michigan or Indiana.

It sounds like they are in the same boat!

Don't forget...

To add to your stats, Ohio has ranked number 48 or below for the last several years at economic growth. We have been beat by North and South Dakota, Maine, Montana, Idaho and many others at bringing in new industry and jobs. We consistently have some of the highest numbers of exodus of college graduates in the nation. The kids come here for an education and then take their wares elsewhere.

Can a Senator or State Representative or a governor or heck, a city councilman help change these numbers?
