Bank Online
If you change to online banking you save 37 cents for every bill you mail. OK - I'm teasing, althougth I recently made the switch and really like it !!!
The question is are you satisfied with kids continuing to be housed in portables that are at the end of their useful life? Or going to school in split sessions for grades 5-8, to make Diley and Harmon elementary schools?
My opinion is I would rather build permanent structures than waste operating dollars replacing portables. Buying additional portables whether it's to replace or add to the growing number being used is throwing good money after bad.
Facts are one of the fastest growing cities is within the school district's boundaries - it's not realistic to hope that enrollment numbers will hold fast or decline. The school district is 40% built out according to the local papers - I forget which one I saw it in, so the argument that the buildings will go unused is probably not a good one yet...
I do think students deserve to be educated in a building - it needs to be simple, efficient & cost effective. The rendering is on the website and it doesn't look fancy. The biggest difference between the new school and Tussing is the intervention space. I spoke to Kristi Motsch (Violet's principal) and she told me that Tussing stores many supplies in hallways & large display cases instead of featuring students artwork because they've converted all the closets to mini classrooms for intervention.
If we kept our kids in closets at home - Children's Services would come and take them and we would be told by everyone we were bad parents. I guess I don't think it's ok for our kids to spend part of their school day in these kinds of conditions either. Kids at Violet have gym in portables but are told not to jump (in Gym class!!!) because it makes the CD player jump. At least it's nice enough now that they can go outside when it's not raining, but I know my daughter has spent most of her gym time in a trailer!!
