Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

And they're off...

Posted in: PATA
The Lancaster Eagle Gazette is reporting that our new city councilman were sworn in last night. Let's break down what they had to say...

Jeff Fox - ''I'm faced with different challenges and issues everyday with my job at Escape Enterprises. I know how to get things done, how to move processes, projects and issues forward. ... I bring a unique mix of professional and political background to council and I think I will be able to use that very well for the benefit of the citizens of Pickerington.''

Mr. Fox, you work for a burger joint. You're toughest challenge is to convince people to biggie size their order.

Cristie Hammond - Toughest challenge, ''It's probably still the growth issues...''

Cristie, you're not sure??? You slept in through the campaign... it's time to wake up and do some work.

Keith Smith - ''The biggest thing is a fresh perspective of what our citizens want...''

Isn't this the same guy that stabbed O'Brien and Kramer in the back during their supposed team campaign? The same guy that received a trumped up Republican endorsement and had a Democrat running his campaign. This guy has a fresh perspective of what our citizens want??

Buckle up Pickerington, we're in for a wild ride.

Welcome back Watcher

Well Watcher, you certainly like to start the New Year with bloodying noses don?’t you? While I don?’t agree with the course, I do agree with what you say. Don?’t spend too much time worrying about Fix/Fox. He has so many political strings attached to him that he is already getting tangled in them. Hopefully they?’ll strangle him. He lost his first campaign on council as his candidate didn?’t get elected president. Now he and his politicians are essentially hamstrung. Happy New Year.

Ease up on Cristie some. Although Kramer and O?’Brien outworked her 10 hours to 1 hour all through the campaign, whatever she did or didn?’t do worked, didn?’t it? Perhaps sticking to issues and staying away from all the trash talking and politics that Kramer and O?’Brien did was not what the voters wanted. They must have wanted a wallflower that had no original thoughts and only regurgitated rhetoric that the voters must have wanted to hear.

Now Smith is another story. He is apparently counting houses visited like Riggs and Fix/Fox count votes and quotes. Like people soon forget, or more probably could care less how many votes you got, no one cares how many houses you visited Smith. What we will care about is your political repayment plan. Your candidate did not win the exalted presidency either. You played in the partisan sandbox and played all sides. Now you have to pay back those who financed you and sold out their ethics, constitutions and bylaws to place you where they needed you. All we can hope for is that you learned a lesson on which sea you set sail on. Stormy or calm seas lie ahead as long as your compass works well. Somehow what you did to your running mates will come back to haunt you. Hopefully you can look yourself in the mirror every day and tolerate what you see. Frankly you turn my stomach. You screwed two good men who would have run circles around you on council. I only hope you can look them in the eye and think what you did was right.

Good luck President Wisniewski and Vice President Hackworth. Of all councilmen, you have bitten off more than you can chew. Remember who your friends are. Remember that in two years, it?’s your turn to get the Kramer/O?’Brien treatment. This city was slow to get corrupt, slow to turn the other way but is more quickly returning to the way of the past. Be our beacon of hope. Be the men that we know you are and we know Kramer and O?’Brien are. Don?’t let anyone turn you. Politics or any gubernatorial candidates aren?’t worth it.
Upper cut to the chin

I must admit that I do like to come out of the corner swinging. Perhaps I should rely more upon good footwork and jab a little more. Here are some jabs and rope a dope...

I give Fix/Fox less than two years into his term before he bails. Jeffery, you are not going to be able to get any, none, nada, zippo of your Republican Club or whomever cronies into seats in Pickerington government. You forgot that you have enemies at that same table with on council as well as many of the prominent commissions. All that being true, you're going to need to be very careful to keep your nose clean and to get along otherwise they'll be all over you like a cheap suit.

Smith will fade into obscurity over time. It'll take longer than Fix/Fox but it will happen none the less. The word is spreading to all those with an ear for Pickerington politics regarding what he did to his running mates and most are none to pleased with Keith. He claims to ''know what the citizens want''... Keith, I'm pretty certain that they don't want liars, cheats, or flip-floppers. They want leadership and you have not displayed that you possess one ounce of that quality.

I'm willing to give Cristie the benefit of the doubt. However, she needs to portray a sense of urgency in settling into her new position. The clock is ticking and when she is quoted in the local press as though she is still uncertain about the issues, the people of Pickerington get angry, I get angry. We desire better.

As always... I'm watching.

Keep an Open Mind

At least for the time being, I plan to keep an open mind on the merits of the new city council.

In fact, I am optimistic. We have a first rate council president and council vice president, and the council and the mayor seem, so far, to be heading in the right direction.

If they make a wrong turn, there will be plenty of time to complain. For the present, however, lets help them see the right way.
