One of the constant comments we all see on this blog in regards to the school board and our elected public officials, is the why didn't you run for office? Well here is the opportunity to tell the readers what you would do if you did run and were elected. Tell us what office you would run for (school board, city council, Mayor, township trustee, or other) and what would be the first thing you would like to accomplish in that position?

What do you think?

What I think?

I think I'd love to hear SOME of these posters, that run off at the mouth complaining about everything, respond to your questions. But they won't. More productive for them to complain anonymously, than participate in a solution.
What I think

Well I think I might choose to answer this a little differently than you are asking for. Here is why I WOULD NOT run for office. I have participated in campaigns since 1999 in this area and elsewhere in the county. I have been lucky to have supported some successful candidates. After a time in office I found them to not be the same people I once knew. What is it about elected office that causes their ego to inflate to such a degree that they don?’t remember my name or even that I supported them financially or through legs on the street? Many elected officials live in a world that goes back no further than the last month or something. They seem to have become more of a ?“what can you do for me now?” person than the ?“what can I do for you?” person that I campaigned for. I am not saying that all elected officials become like this but I am disappointed in the number that have. I don?’t have money or prestige or a famous name. I am just a regular person who goes to work and raises my kids as best as I can. I volunteer, go to church, help my neighbors when they need it and try to remain positive in the face of so much negativity. I worry that if I ran for public office, I may change as so many others have changed.

There are men I supported outside the city that I talked to at length during their campaigns who promised change but when the opportunity came to make those changes, they looked the other way. There are people in the school district I supported that promised unity and thoughtfulness in their plans and decisions that almost seem to be carbon copies of their predecessors who we worked so hard to replace. That, or they sit in their seat with no comprehensible plan to do anything but sit through yet another term spewing the same rhetoric they always have. There are some members of city offices that I had so much faith in a few years ago that I am now questioning my judgment in being able to read people at all. You have people who represent the city that I wouldn?’t now want to represent me at the pet parade. All they are interested in is their own gains and power and the city comes a distant second. Rather then look at ways to make our old village prosperous and ?“the place?” for residents to come and enjoy the community, they instead moan about who is council president like there was some big conspiracy in simply looking for a new leadership style. Rather then looking for ways to ease traffic congestion, they try to browbeat people into ?“raising the level of public discourse?” instead of leading by example. Rather then doing what nearly every other government entity in Ohio has to do and make hard decisions on dealing with decreasing income and rising expenses effectively, they instead accuse the very people trying to do that of being on a witch hunt. There are elected officials who were supposed leaders and tried to give the impression that they were committed to other team members who instead go around telling people that the ones they once supported are hacks, incompetents, ambulance chasers and worse when describing their health. They turned on the very people who got them where they are.

No, I wouldn?’t run for office in this area because I would worry I would turn into someone I don?’t like and wouldn?’t want my kids to see me be that way all in the name of politics. If the day ever comes when public servants return to serving the public, maybe I?’ll try but that day seems a long way off.

Not on a bet..!!!!!

I have seen what the Pickerington Political Machine and the local hacks do to someone that tries to serve their community, and it isn?’t pretty.

Petty attacks on our leaders character and personal lives are the norm for this area. What ever happened to attack the idea not the person?

Pickerington politics are a page right from the Karl Rove playbook, if you don?’t like someone, SWIFT BOAT them.

Subject myself and my family to the abuse that this community dishes out on a regular basis? Not on a bet.

As long as this community continues to treat the people that try to serve them as doormats, count me out.

I have come to believe that you don?’t deserve my time or effort, and I suspect that others have come to this conclusion as well.
