The amount of mud slinging on this site is very disappointing. I check this site every once in awhile to read about issues involving Pickerington. But the site now seems to be turning into a place for people to ''plot'' against city council and the mayor. These people were elected by the people of P-town, so they are there for a reason. If you don't like it, don't vote for them next time. But don't sink to the low level of dragging them and their families through the mud. If you don't like the policies in place, work to change them by putting yourself and your reputation on the line by running for office yourself next time. As far as I can tell, this is still a democracy and the voters have in place who they want. If you are qualified, put yourself out there and run. Hopefully, you'll get better treatment than what you've been dishing out. I won't be visiting this site anymore. Maybe someone will start up one where actual issues are discussed and people aren't just out to ruin everyone. I would urge everyone who voted for the mayor to stand behind him should this supposed recall petition happen. Government should not be changed by a few people who want to distort facts and cause people pain for their own gain.
Agreed, and more

Mr. Shaver,

I write in reference to your story in the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette this morning. Congratulations on your decision and your reasons. Family always has to come first. May I comment on some of your statements in this article?

First, I agree that there is a lot more work to be done in Pickerington and appreciate your resolve to see them through. It takes a special person to put aside their higher political aspiration to dig in to the job at hand. I appreciate your postings in this forum on raising the level of public discourse and was disappointed to see some of the responses. I believe they are the work of the same people who launched these tirades in the past. They have no loyalties to any faction, either your administration or past administrations. They are simply contrarians and know no better.

I was somewhat taken aback by your comments about campaigns in this county being vicious and involving personal attacks. While I haven?’t been directly involved in many campaigns in the county I have been involved in some here in the city. I have seen some personal attacks by people who have no issues to defend but what I mostly have seen are people who stick to issues despite the opportunity to get real personal. In fact, just this last council campaign I gained a tremendous amount of respect for a couple of candidates I helped for the way they ran their campaigns despite them not being successful in the end. They ran issue-based campaigns and in spite of them being asked several times about their feelings on their opponents, their responses weren?’t derogatory or personal in nature. I credit a part of their integrity to you. Both are volunteers elsewhere in the committee structure and I am sure that through their respect for you, they wouldn?’t stoop to personal attacks. It is a credit to you that even after unsuccessful campaigns they still exhibit a strong desire to serve the community.

I have followed your public service career for a while now and I am a little disheartened to hear that you think that politics in this town are more on a personal level rather then a policy level. Perhaps I am more disheartened to hear about politics at all. You have always struck me as a person who can unite a team and use that teamwork to accomplish great things. Please be a little introspective and look to your successes of the past to see how you can again lead this community successfully. Let?’s leave politics to the politicians.

Also I would like to make a comment to the new webmasters of this site. Keep trying and don?’t give up. I appreciate the positive changes you are trying to make and see some results of it. Aside from the poison pen postings, there have been some real issues raised that deserve discussion. The poison pens will run out of ink and run out of steam. They always do.

Thanks

Thanks, Tom and Michael. You've expressed my sentiments on this subject far more eloquently than I ever could have done. A lot of us will be there for Dave if any of this ever amounts to more than a hill of beans. But I think that beans, and far too many of them, are what this is all about.

When will they get along

Totally confused about this mudslinging and the problems with our Council. The levels of mudslinging reach higher each week.

When will our leaders here in Pickerington learn to get along with each other? When will they stop mudslinging at each other. They bring all of us down into the gutter with them.

I am sick of it and sick of reading all the mudsling from the different fractions on Council on this website. I don't know who to believe anymore.
