I like additions too. While there is absolutely no room at Heritage, for additions or parking lot space, let alone space for the busses to line up without blocking traffic, some of the other schools have space available. The PEA came out in full force against this idea (first try at the ballot). They don't like big (larger than 750 student) elementaries. How much did the PEA play in this option getting voted down? I don't know. I know I've read in the papers enrollment projections and I believe a 1000 student elementary school will be filled in a few years. One school won't cut it. As for the cost of additions, I believe the cost of adding a multipurpose room (additional classroom/gym space) to Violet or Pick ranged in the $1.2-1.8 million dollar range. That was discussed at a school board meeting sometime in the first half of 2005. Maybe that gives you a starting point.
Pam and you have great questions and suggestions that should be discussed and/or perhaps may have already been investigated. Perhaps you can cut and paste these into an email directly to the BOE members as there's no guarantee that all or even one of them read this site.
