MISSION IMPOSSIBLE
I have been reading some of the comments here in regard to a recall and you folks with all due respect are in over your head.
First this mysterious meeting and 30 people showed up. I doubt 30 people were aware of it let alone had an urge to attend. You are promoting a recall and you don?’t have even the basic information of just how many signatures you need and you are waiting on a call from the BOE. C?’mon guys give it up until you know what you are doing.
In 2003 David Shaver received 1,959 votes for Mayor. In addition over 4,100 Pickerington voters cast votes in the last Municipal election in November of 2005. So to convince those 1,959 voters to reconsider their vote you must collect over 1,100 valid signatures. I would recommend collecting nearly 1,500 signatures because some will surely be thrown out by the BOE.
Now to convince the Pickerington voters to reconsider their 2003 vote you have to come up to a 200 word essay to state the reasons or reason you want this action.
He is way ahead of you all in the paper yesterday with his illness of depression. Something along the line he has suffered with the problem for years. So will the voters sign and then vote out the Mayor because he occasional becomes depressed. Don?’t we all suffer from depression but in different degrees? The only difference is most of us are able to recover without medication.
So your assignment is that the Mayor or his illness is adversely affecting his job performance and he is unfit to serve as Mayor of Pickerington. Can any of you do that in 200 words?
By just revealing embarrassing information about the Mayor that may be public record will not make your case. The case you must make is how is this illness or what ever is negatively affecting the Mayor?’s job performance and how it is affecting the city.
Most of you are probably not trained in the psychiatric field of medicine. Most of us don?’t understand nor to do we have the ability to deal with some mental conditions. So the question here is the Mayor?’s self proclaimed problem with depression all there is in this so called up coming scandal?
My neighbor has a brother who suffers from depression. The brother drinks and that makes his meds not work properly. The brother is in his late 40s and he is getting progressively worse in his condition. About every 4 to 6 months they must admit him to Riverside Hospital in the Psycho ward and get his medication adjusted. The brother has suicide tendencies, he becomes paranoid, he has a violent temper, he makes poor decisions, he is abusive to friends and family, he is impulsive, and he totally forgets or has no memory of his bad behavior once his medication is working again.
The mayor has no vote in any action before the city. The charter makes him a figure head and the spokesman for the city. Basically he is there is kiss the babies and cut ribbons. The Pickerington city charter does allow him some supervisory authority over the manager.
The questions we all must consider here is does the Mayor do his job? Does he over step his authority? Does he break any of the council rules? Is he mentally stable enough to lead the city in an emergency?
