“Careful consideration”

Connecting the dots

Then the Mayor goes on in his posting with this quote:

?“If you wish to have a better city, I would start with simple civility in political discourse. I would also start with a simple dose of courage. If you want to express an opinion and be taken seriously, then use your name.?”

That was right after he said this:

?“If you wish good people to become involved in politics, you need to recognize that one of the barriers to participation is that many simply do not wish to have thier names dragged through the mud or have their personal lives subjected to rude and tasteless attacks.?”

Two days later he public ridicules Mitch O?’Brien in front of the press by comparing him to Maxey and making his appointment process public.

MR. MAYOR; MITCH O?’BRIEN IS GOOD PEOPLE AND I DOUBT HE WILL EITHER CONSIDER SERVING THE CITY AGAIN, AS LONG AS PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE IN OFFICE. I THOUGHT WE HAD CROSSED THAT BRIDGE A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO.

This site was put here to allow community comments without retribution from those in office. Many were beginning to believe that it was safe to go back into the water, apparently we are wrong.

Although I have no idea what Mr. O?’Brien did or said, but you appear to have put him in his place. Thank you, Mayor for your class and courage. You need to develop a Randy Hughes swager now.

Even in Mr. O?’Brien?’s comments he doesn?’t compare you to say Randy Hughes or someone you dislike and he didn?’t say he voluntarily stepped down. Your public explanation as to why you made the change on P & Z is the very reason you will not get me and probably other responsible citizens into the mess you are running down on Lockville Road. For every other personell matter you would have gone into executive session. Now when you are trying to intimidate those that might have a different opinion you want to really show them who's boss what will happen if they disagree.

I suspect there is an effort to anoint Heidi Riggs and Jeff Fix as Mayor and what ever but there is something in you and Heidi?’s records you want to keep quiet and not be made public.

What ever is in your record Mayor is that how the Fairfield County Republican party is controlling you?

Mend THIS, Pam !!

I am a long time supporter of what was the majority of council and the mayor for the last two years. I also am personal friends with some of them and still am today, despite the absolute division between these parties. Let?’s review some history, shall we?

How many times has David Shaver resigned as mayor? No less than two and probably not more than 5. In all occasions, who was the one person that remained loyal and helped talk the mayor out of resigning each time? O?’Brien?

Throughout the last year in the search for a law firm for the city, who stood by Shaver?’s side in spite of those Shaver now thinks are his only blonde allies?’ attacks on the mayor?’s mental state and character? O?’Brien?

Throughout the Diley Road debacle, who stood beside the mayor even after he made such a ridiculous statement such as ?“Someone?’s ox has to get gored?”? O?’Brien?

How many times over the last two years has O?’Brien represented the mayor at ribbon cutting ceremonies and all the other official events that the mayor is duty-bound to perform, by charter, that were not political enough to benefit him? Ask Molly Swartz, Shaver?’s secretary. She has been quoted as O?’Brien was always the go-to guy when the mayor would not live up to the requirements of his office.

I can go on with examples like this but I will instead defer to others who know this information to post it here.

Now, in return for this loyalty, what has Shaver done for O?’Brien?

When O?’Brien made an agreement with the NW Republican Club regarding partisan endorsements, Shaver directly violated the agreement. He was not involved and had no business butting in. This NW Club could not, by their own constitution and bylaws endorse the two independents on O?’Brien?’s slate. Shaver offered his support and influence to the two independents on O?’Brien?’s slate if they abandoned the slate and sought endorsement of the club. At the same time, Shaver publicly denounced support for O?’Brien, gave it back, took it away, gave it back, took it away?…?… He had a direct hand in engineering the abandonment of the ethics that this club supposedly held so dearly while at the same time abandoning his own ethics for purely political reasons with no care for loyalty.

Now I am going to tell you a story about Shaver?’s judicial campaign. There wasn?’t one. As of mid-January, Shaver had not raised a single dollar in campaign funding, had not named a campaign manager, had not assured support from the county party, the bar association, had not circulated petitions, nothing ?– zero, zilch, NADA!! His opponents had already begun circulating campaign literature and Shaver had done absolutely nothing. So he asks O?’Brien to be his campaign manager.

Put yourself in O?’Brien?’s shoes for a minute. Here?’s a guy who just came off an unsuccessful campaign for council having been backstabbed and screwed over by almost every person he thought were friends. These ?“friends?” jumped on the Shaver political bandwagon with only two purposes in mind. Get obedient minions Fix and Smith elected and destroy O?’Brien. The campaign took a serious toll on O?’Brien and his family not unlike Shaver said had on his family. Now Shaver wanted him to put that aside and run a county-wide campaign that would require a 24/7 commitment and still had little chance of success.

So O?’Brien declines to commit himself to this campaign. He has a family and yes, has a job that takes 8 hours a day or more and Shaver wanted him to set all this aside to run a doomed campaign. O?’Brien says no and Shaver says fine, you?’re fired from P&Z.

End of story. End of an era. Before any of you get involved in Shaver?’s alternate universe he lives in and his raging paranoia, GET THE WHOLE STORY.

I Have

Trust me, I have gotten the whole story -- several versions of it, in fact. And I plan to seek out more. I want to hear this one from every angle, and appreciate yours. I hope I can help. I think, at least, that I can offer a different perspective.

No one wants the city distracted from its goals by stuff like this, least of all Mitch. You have Mitch right -- he's a class act all around, and is concerned for nothing but the well-being of this community. He has not been treated well. But he is not looking for revenge. He is looking for progress.

We are where we are, and what has happend has happened, unfortunate as it is. Let's still try to make the very best of it -- to pull together for the good of this community, which is what drew all of us together in the first place. After all, we're just getting started, and there are still wolves at the door.

THANKS

Pam, your insight it right on, thanks for sharing it with all of us. You are correct that the wolves are still at the door, even some that appear not to be wolves may be...

On another string one poster mentioned that the best thing that has happened to the city is two properties for sale, the Berry home and Miller home and indeed a third the Berry and Miller office.

Although these individuals believed their intentions for this city were well meaning, they certainly garnered more favors from city hall than almost any developer, except for Dominion. The fact that they are leaving town means that they have not been able to get into the back door at city hall, so they are looking to another city for a cozy agreement.

We all must remember that because the world is now flat with broadband access everywhere, the wolves can come to sit with us and not even be present and accounted for...

no it is not safe in the water.
