Seeing is believing

I see there are people, like Old Timer, that are concerned about the direction of our City. You know that there are those that run for office for different reasons. Some have a huge ego that they must satisfy some inter urge to be important and once elected lack the maturity and poise to effectively lead a city. They then all of a sudden view their elected position as a job all about them and not about serving the citizens that put them into office. Others that are elected may not possess the ego and outward personality to put on airs so to speak but who keep everything in perspective and go about their duties with out incident and without notice in a lot of ways. Some are better at running campaigns and others are better at the work at hand while in office. Rarely do these two qualities in a politician meet in the same person.

As some of you may remember we had a boy Mayor a few years ago named Lee Gray. He was elected while in his 20s and his lack of maturity showed quickly. He won re-election and his image was very good among the older folks in town that still viewed him as the little paper boy that delivered their paper in the mornings. Despite doing things underhanded while in office, hardly no one outside the inter circles of the City Hall and the county Republican party knew a thing about the real Lee Gray. All held their silence and no one else knew.

As some of you may recall Mayor Gray found himself in a pickle in July of 1998. At the time, the Mayor owned a Pizza restaurant chain and late one hot summer night one of him associates was pulled over for an expired tag on his pickup truck. Actually the truck's licenses tag was for a Ford Mustang that was supposedly parked in the driver's driveway. On the floor board of the truck was an open bottle of Jack Daniels and it was apparent that the driver had consumed much of the bottle. In short the driver was drunk as a skunk. As the officer (who is still on the Pickerington police force) gave the driver a field sobriety test and even my untrained eye viewing the dash cam video showed that he was drunk. However then the girl friend gets out of the truck and becomes abusive to the officer. She is on her cell phone calling who else Lee Gray. Clearly the officer fears for his job and once the Mayor arrived the officer releases the drunk driver to Gray who drives off with the drunk to his political retirement. My point here is if there had not been a video camera recording the events of that July evening who would have believed the officer and who would believe that Mayor Gray would have allowed an obviously drunk driver to go free, and one that had no vehicle license and for all the officer knew the truck was stolen. If was not for the video camera Gray would probably still be Mayor.

I fully understand that the postings on this web site are anonymous and they sometimes they get nasty. Many times you see things on this web site before they actually appear in the local media. Like the Girls basketball game scores below. My point here is that I believe there is a lot of truth being played out about our city and community on this web site. Don't discard the messages just because they are anonymous.

Do we have to have another police dashboard camera incident to prove some of the behavior issues with the current Mayor?
