Time for a challenge
For a long time I have only voted Republican. I will not vote Republican this year in the Governors race. First Blackwell comes out with his TEL amendment then once he had rallied his base (religious right) the good old boy network talked him out of the amendment and they handled it by passing legislation. I believe many of the current Republicans (voters) in the state still believe in the moral issues that Blackwell is trying to win on. However being Governor will not give him or anyone else the power to change abortion or gay marriage.
The next Governor must address the Ohio Economy.
Locally in the county we have partisan races. The local Republicans have torn themselves apart trying to rid themselves of the scandals and the corruption. I believe over the last few years they have elected some to serve that were not the best this county could offer. Tony, what you folks on the Democratic side must do is concentrate on the wounded officials like our County Commissioners in 2008. Work on finding good upstanding candidates that can challenge the status quo of the Republicans. I think your party needs to show that Democrats can have conservative values and not some kind of tax and spend left wing candidate that we have seen in the past.
I know that there were many Democrats upset after the last election that George W. got elected. The Democratic party members from the grassroots of Ohio and all of the states must re-take their party back from the Kennedy's and Hillary's. The vast majority of voters are independent and they don't look at party labels. Putting up a John Kerry was a huge mistake on the part of the democrats in 2004.
I know the local politics (City of Pickerington and Violet Township) have been infiltrated by partisan politics over the years. Although I believe the current office holders in Pickerington and Violet are honest and in most cases working for the good of the community I do see that tendency of the partisan politics trying to take over the hard fought battles of local politics that have played out on this web site over the years.
I would suggest to the democrats to set their sights and goals to levels that they can obtain and not try the shot gun approach. Concentrate your efforts to pick off the weak ''R'' candidates and office holders don't burn up all of your resources on weak Democratic candidates.
To win you will need to move your party toward the center.
Like Lin; I would like to hear what the ''D'' have to say.
