Let somebody else pay for it?

That sounds to me a lot like 'we'll vote in this levy for our kids because someone else will get to pay for most of it'. Sorry, but us empty nesters paid for our kids the past twenty years and built several schools. We don't feel a need to pay for yours with schools dictated by the state and teacher unions that are far beyond what is needed to educate the kids. The money spent on the theaters in both schools and the constant harping about Central's football field show me that priorities are not about educating the kids but rather how many toys the parents can show off.

If a developer builds 400 houses that bring in 800 kids and that requires another elementary school I have no problem with the folks that create the need being required to pay for the need. Don't send me the bill.

I will be around a long time

I agree that you must work on the swing voters for passing any levies. However, I also think there are swing voters in demographic groups that you are writing off. What you consider as your school base may not be that great of a base in bad economic times. A good example of that is Pickerington precinct ''F'' which feeds Pickerington Elem. and the majority are young families. They had 70% in favor of the bond issue but precincts ''G'' and ''C'' offset that by wide margins. Unless you can use some kind of exit polling or phone polling prior to the election you will never know how these folks vote individually.

Name calling like you suggested in your posting will only drive away that chance of finding any swing voters in these older demographics. Suggesting that these people are now throw away people also creates a very high level of resentment at least on my part. Right now my attitude is that I am going to live here until I die. Since my wife and I are in relatively good health that may be another 25 years or so. I am sure as hell not going to vote for anyone or anything that has so little regard for me and my well being.

Consider This

Several of the posters here say you are not willing to pay local taxes to support the schools and want the state to take over spending. Consider this, according to the last national census, we are one of the 10 richest school districts in the State of Ohio. I'm estimating this based on the Violet Twn totals which include the cities of Pickerington and Columbus in Fairfield county. Our average yearly income is about $50,000 and the median income is almost $80,000. Guess where the state is going to go for new taxes, not to the poor districts but to the rich ones. That's us folks. We'll see taxes levied and shipped out other poorer districts.
