Sunshine Law violation?

Posted in: PATA
By Brian Wisniewski's own admission, he and Jeff Fix are meeting for breakfast Monday morning. Is this a Sunshine Law violation? Or is it only a violation when two other members of council are meeting and Brian wasn't invited? Should we all show up uninvited, as Mr. Wisniewski claims he has done to council members in the past?

What about the assertion that perception is reality? If I believe someone has broken a law, even though I have absolutely no idea what the law states, did that person really break a law?

If I spread rumors that someone has broken a law, based on my uninformed idea of what the law states, am I guilty of slander? If I post on a website my false assertion that someone has broken a law, am I guilty of libel?

Help me understand.
I don't think so

I don't think Brian and Jeff are the majority of any committee. Their meeting for breakfast does not constitute a quorum of any committee, so no, I don't believe this is a sunshine violation.

However, If Jeff and another member of the rules committee did meet, then the two of them constituted a quorum or majority of that committee.

But since it has been reported to the ethics commission, let them investigate and decide.
Great!

I'm looking forward to you reporting back to this forum that the ethics committee decided that no laws were violated. You really reported this to the ethics committee, right? You wouldn't lie anonymously on this upstanding website, would you?

You see, if they weren't discussing any business currently before the Rules Committee, they didn't violate the Sunshine Laws.

But posting baseless allegations on this website is a good way to cast doubt about someone's character, isn't it? And that's really all that matters, right?
My apologies

You may have misunderstood that I filed the complaint with the ethics commission. I didn't but Watchful did. My error was propogating that rumor from another thread to this thread.
