More North vs. Central issues?

Posted in: PATA
Response to NorthCentral????

Yes, we did lose a bond issue for $35 million BUT it was the fourth loss. Wouldn't it make sense that if the voters vote no 4 times, and the district continues to grow, the need will also continue to grow. Did anyone notice the new portables at the middle schools. Would you argue that now not only do we need 2 more elementary schools but also a middle school.

The poll was a cross section of likely voters and did not consist soley of parents.

The board has not voted on a $62 million bond issue. The board will decide this month whether to go for the 30 or 60 million dollar option.

Sounds like you have been reading bits and pieces but are not getting the whole picture.

One more point- the bond WILL NOT go down in flames in November. If it does, so will our community.
Numbers should change

I confused by this statement

''One of the issues that has bugged me for years is that the numbers and plans at our schools continue to change over time''

Wouldn't you expect the numbers to change as the needs of our school district change? More growth, less room etc.
Communications and elections

On the school board's fourth try they came very close to passing a bond issue for two new elementary schools. They did that with improved commutations and better grass roots organization. However it appears that much of the ground gained may be lost by pieces in the paper like what appeared a day or so ago in the Lancaster Eagle Gazette.

I am afraid our school board is about to make a huge mistake in taking on a $62 Million bond issue based on a recent survey completed by Global Strategy Group. The poster before noted that this was a cross section of likely voters however was it a cross section of likely voters in all demographic groups? In other words, were some of these groups getting more weight in this survey that others and with this disproportional make up of those surveyed will it flaw the final report?

I want to point out that the City of Pickerington sent out a survey late last year and they were asking questions about their parks and recreation facilities. When asked if they wanted a recreation center and or a swimming pool the yes answers were in the 80% range. When asked how they wanted to pay for these new facilities the number of yes vote completely reversed. My point is that the leaders of this community must read every question and listen intently before making statements or decisions when it comes to ballot issues.

In the recent school board survey questions #5 & #6 were about the $62 Million bond and the $39 Million bond. The answers are identical. That is highly suspicious to me.

The party affiliation is also interesting. I will say that around 75% of the voters here identify themselves as independent. in the school survey only 23% indicated they were independent. In addition registered republicans out number registered democrats by 3 to 1 in the community. This survey found a less that 2 to 1 ratio. Yet the survey company claims it only has an error rate of + - 4.86%.

Question number 30 is an open ended question. It is asking what the voter thinks the reason that the levies have failed that last four times out. If I understand the method here it appears these voters were not prompted with a multiple choice answers. What ever they thought they said.

39% said their property taxes were too high.

30% said that the school wasn't spending its money wisely.

12% said not enough information was being provided to the community.

Despite that fact that 60% said they would vote for either a $39 or $62 million bond issue, it also says 69% say they have serious money issues with the school.

What people want and what they are willing to pay for may very well be worlds apart here.
