Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

New dawn on Wednesday morn

It appears that the Democrats are about to score big both here in Ohio and at the National level on Tuesday.

At the National level we see the same old cycle which is corruption and it is the only issue that seems to turn out the party in power. I am not sure that is the best method of selecting our representatives but that is the system we seem to live by.

If some of you can remember back to 1994 the Democrats had a number of scandals including the Congressional Post Office. There we had most of our federal government kiting checks at tax payers expense.

This time out the Republicans have a number of issues and scandals that taken as a whole are going to change the landscape of congress next week.

On the positive side it appears no party will control everything and thus I don?’t see much getting done. Which is really a good thing. The only concern is that the Democrats won?’t make the tax cuts permanent. They now claim to be the fiscal conservatives this time.

I am concerned about national security. The Democrats have talked for years about it but they seem to get weak knees when there is a call to action. Obviously the Democrats will try to prepare the White House for Hillary. So maybe we might be safe for a while.

Here in Ohio I can?’t see things getting worse. We have elected Bob Taft twice only to find out that he was taking gifts under the table and not reporting them. In Business this probably wouldn?’t have been a problem but with ethics laws in place they were a big problem. When one couples that with the guy giving the gifts and then he loses millions of taxpayers dollars and is currently on trial then it paints the entire state house as crooks. Thanks BOB!

Despite sitting on more energy that what is in the Middle East Ohio remains in a slump and is losing its youngest and brightest young people to other states where they can make a living. I am not sure that Sherrod Brown has the answers but like most I am willing to give him a chance despite his hippy past. I think Ken Blackwell failed to convince everyone including me that he had a plan to turn us around. It looks like there will be a clean sweep at the state house after Tuesday. Not sure how the General assembly will end up. Here again I hope it is a split like the Federal government.

So I wonder how will we judge the new government in the next four years? What are our expectations and will Ted Strickland deliver? Does he really have a plan? If so what is it? Can he fix the school funding problems? Will he do it with massive tax increases? If so will he only be in office one term? Can he fix the Medicaid funding? Will that requite tax increases?

I would say we will need to stay tuned until next year at this time.
Sherrod Brown

If people like Sherrod Brown take power at the national level we will all be dead or pledging allegiance to the kuran in a few short years.
