Maybe it?’s time to rethink
I was ready to respond to these attacks on me yesterday but thought I?’d sleep on it first. Good thing I did because the response I offer this morning is much less confrontational that what I had prepared yesterday.
I need to rethink my position about this website. I guess whoever said it was right. This PATA thing has been around a lot longer than I have. In reading back through the years I see the positive impact it has had on local issues with a large percentage of posters remaining anonymous. So I will stop my rants over anonymous postings. I will continue to use my real name though and encourage, but not demand others do too.
Back to the topic at hand, I ask all of you give city council some slack. I am sure this visit to a local bar was not the first time this happened. You have to think about their side. They are in a very stressful job and it helps to unwind occasionally. I?’ve heard since yesterday that Gary Wetlick was also drinking with them. Now come on, all these people are just trying to work together to unite us as a community. If it takes liquor to relax everyone and open their minds then let them be. They aren?’t hurting anyone. It is simply camaraderie.
And just stop with the drunk driving insinuations. Our police chief has a tough enough job without having to be on the lookout for drunk councilmen every other Tuesday night. Besides, if his boss is caught driving drunk what would you expect him to do? Charge her and lose his job. Come on.
People, these people at the bar late into the night were simply working together to look for solutions to problems we, as a community, are facing. Council has three councilmen steadfast in the convictions that the economic agreement is assuredly not in the best interest of the city. Day after day, night after night, meeting after meeting all these three keep hammering on is facts and data. They keep demanding proof that all this is a win-win for the city and township. They keep demanding time to study all of the documentation provided by Jeff and Gary that refutes their statements that the city will lose its shirt on the deal and lose a lot of money.
I agree that these people at the bar deserve the opportunity to meet privately and comfortably to develop strategies to proceed forward and accomplish their objectives. They will let the public know when we need to know how they worked things out. I only hope the three councilmen left out of the shots and beer meetings can be a little patient. What they are asking for takes time and effort and that can really raise a thirst.
Let?’s give everyone a second chance. There?’s not too many people out that late at night that their impaired driving can hurt and remember, these are adults people. Give them a break.
Maybe I am also asking all of you for a second chance for me. I get a little riled up and sometimes I speak before I think. I am still committed to being the next mayor of our fine city and look forward to the camaraderie that the majority of council and the trustees and city staff exhibit. I want to join the team.
