Speed limit might be lowered on Hill Road
A proposal to reduce the speed limit on a section of Hill Road has the unanimous approval of the City Council?’s safety committee and is now headed for a full vote.
The affected area is a 0.8-mile stretch between Diley and Jericho roads that city staff engineer Brenda Van-Cleave said is one of the most dangerous in Pickerington. She said 65 crashes have occurred there in the past three years.
If the council agrees, the speed limit will be reduced from 50 mph to 35 mph.

Since we know that our elected officials never make mistakes, I would like to ask the chairman of the safety committee to post a link on this site that will lead us to the traffic study that was conducted to support lowering the speed limit on a state highway. I have to assume that ODOT has a say in what the incompetent engineer the city hired and the equally incompetent councilmen we hired do with controlling their highways.
I would like to ask the chairman of the service committee, who I am sure must have had his committee concur on this asinine decision, to update us on the changes made to the master traffic plan or whatever it is called that allows arbitrary speed limit changes to occur throughout the city.
If there have been 65 crashes in the last 3 years, that is an average of .06 crashes per day. Doesn?’t that equal one crash per 16.67 days? (plus you need to separate out the morons entering and leaving PYAA who have no regard for the safety of their children by their carelessness and the thousand or so people entering and exiting Seton who act carelessly because God is their copilot and, by God, they?’re Catholics and should be honored). If that is true then I would also ask the chairmen above to provide data where crashes exceed .06 per day so you can reassure all of us that your applied method of assuring our safety and to make traffic progress more effectively is to lower speed limits at your whim.
Here?’s some other suggestions MR. Chairmen of the committees. I was almost in a wreck at the intersection of Lockville and Center. Because the light is on a timer and if you are sitting as far back as our mayor?’s law office, when the light turns green you can?’t make it because the timer doesn?’t take into account the time of day. How about reducing the speed limit on that stretch of state highway to 15 mph? If only one car can get through the intersection at a time won?’t we all be safer?
The light at Columbus and Hill is FUBAR. With the pleasant addition of the 25 Wal-Mart semis per hour, how about lowering the speed limit there to 5 mph? This was when the school buses, semis and poor unfortunate souls trying to get on with their lives in this intersection get there, at 5 mph, injuries would be reduced significantly.
How many accidents in the last three years have there been in the area of I-70 and SR256? More than .06 per day I?’d bet. How about lowering the speed limit there to 25? That would make the morning and afternoon commutes much safer according to your decisions by the post office.
I don?’t think any of you conducted any studies at all. I think you dropped the ball on getting PYAA to take the proper steps to assure the safety of all people using their facility by having them enter and exit on Courtright. I think that you can?’t think at all. I think that people like Keith Smith will always take the easy out and just lower the speed limit and hope for the best rather than study the situation and look for the best solution for A_L_L of us and not just a few. I am just sorry Ted Hackworth and the real professional engineers at Stiltson are letting this happen.
