Here's an idea. I and the people I have talked to are in favor of secession from Violet Township. How about we each form ad-hoc committees, meet and discuss independently and formulate presentations to support our respective cases. We can then agree to be prepared to each make a presentation in a public forum, maybe in the spring, to state our cases to the public and then perhaps a survey or surveys can be developed.

Of course, the big question has already been asked to Pam. Can she get this issue before council tabled so our efforts won?’t be wasted? I mean, I could start an Initiative Committee and petition for a city township and put it to the voters. However, that would be in contradiction to those seeking a merger and we already have enough bickering and derisiveness on council that I wouldn?’t want to lower myself to their level among my peers in the community. I also feel that because an Initiative would take longer to accomplish than council to pass this pathetic and irresponsible legislation, that the Initiative would be killed due to the fact that it would violate the terms of the economic agreement and put the city in a lawsuit with the township so they can continue to use our tax dollars to sue us again.

Next Steps

The study committee I have in mind would have everything on the table, including the formation of a separate township under the city. The committee's charge would be to put together a proposal that, all things considered, would best serve the interests of our community, whatever that might turn out to be. Above all, such a committee would have to be objective, and willing to identify and consider every alternative.

I'm not sure how to get this started. I believe you folks seriously overstate my influence with current City and Township officials. I've tried to influence outcomes there before, without much success. Furthermore, I am not sure where I stand on the pending JEDD agreement. Unless we can get something else started, it's still the only show in town.

I also doubt that a survey would be of much value at this point, since most members of this community, including myself, lack sufficient understanding of the issues, and of all the pertinent facts, to make a properly informed judgment. I suggest we gather and disseminate some facts first, and get some discussion of these issues started in the community, before attempting a survey.

Finally, it's impossible to accomplish anything significant on this blog. I still think the best place to start is at Tim Horton's some evening next week, over a cup of coffee. To work together, we will need, at least, to know who we all are. Let's start small, and see what develops.

The meeting that never happened

We understand that there will be a meeting at Tim Hortens to discuss a community action not quite defined yet and no one knows the other's name. So on Saturday December 2nd 2006 a secret meeting is held at Tim Hortens, Those present are Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Yosemite Pam, Dan the music man and Sylvester.

The problem is the meeting didn't get off to a very good start because no one wore their costumes. They were just ordinary people dressed like someone having coffee. There for a moment there might have been some eye contact but that proved to be a man waiting to have breakfast with his wife. She had come in a separate car. After about an hour the whole place emptied and no one spoke to anyone. That is because those that did approach the others in the restaurant found they had no idea what the other person was talking about. So we complete another chapter in the community of dirty politics and secret meetings and hype that never occurs.
