Why is there no City Council meeting this evening? Are the NW Fairfield County Republican Club members; Fix, Riggs, Smith and Shaver going to poll watching parties rather than doing the job they were elected to do?

Right on the mark
You have nailed the reason exactly. The party is in Lancaster as usual. You may want to stop in and ask why they decided to forego serving the city when there are no city elections being held. Oh, that's right, I remember, last election day there was a planning and zoning meeting that Fix tried to have canned so he could attend a party also. Guess you had your 4 votes for that this time Jeffy. |

Double Dipping
Tuesday, November 7, 2006 Lancaster Eagle Gazette Revised districts, I.D. requirement confuse some voters PICKERINGTON ?— Revised voting districts and new I.D. requirements caused some confusion for voters at Peace United Methodist Church on Diley Road in Pickerington today. Voting was busy but went smoothly for the most part, said Pickerington Precinct G Presiding Judge Cristie Hammond, also a member of the Pickerington City Council. Voters waited in lines about 15 minutes long and were already waiting before polls opened at 6:30 a.m. Hammond?’s precinct is one of four set up at the Methodist church. She said in her precinct, only one individual out of about 120 who voted so far was angry over Ohio?’s new requirement that voters show proof of identity. Clint Young, 27, said he didn?’t mind showing his I.D. to voting officials. ?“Don?’t most people have an I.D. anyway??” Young said. ?“I don?’t think it?’s a big deal.?” Voting precincts revised since the last general election were another cause of some confusion. ?“People don?’t know what precinct they?’re supposed to go to,?” Hammond said. ?“Once you get in the right spot, everything is fine.?” Tara Pennington, 30, voted this morning at the church. She said her values are what influences her selection of candidates. She used to vote for Democratic candidates but switched to voting for Republicans during the past presidential election. Pennington said she voted against Pickerington Local Schools?’ proposed bond issue. ?“I don?’t feel that the (school district) leadership or board is fiscally responsible. I think a lot of times there are other ideas available, and they are not looked at thoroughly because (the school board) can just go and ask voters for money,?” Pennington said. ?“If you?’re a CEO of a company, and you don?’t do what you?’re supposed to do with the money, you won?’t have a job. That?’s not always reflected in public offices.?” |

Is this normal?
is it normal for an elected official to serve as a precinct judge during an election? That seems a tad unusual to me. Perhaps Ms. Hammond should have excused herself from this duty on election day and gone to her meeting? But then again, the guy running the election for the entire state is running for governor so i guess it's pretty much the same all over. |
