Old Big Bear Store?

Posted in: PATA
I heard that Carnival Foods grocery store wanted to take over that retail space but were turned down by the city Council. Is that true? I have talked to people that live and shop at the Carnival in Lancaster and they love it. Why would we let that space sit vacant? Just curious.

Sorry, but the City Council cannot say no to a business. It goes through the planning and zoning comission and Service committee.
Information

If it got to planning and zoning, it had to first go through staff. If p and z rejected it, it will be in their minutes. If staff rejected it, we will never know. They do stuff like that all the time.

This site has had numerous expressions of interest by numerous developers according to my friends in development. The problem usually was with the owner, not the city, but given the sad state of affairs with our incompetent city leadership, heck, who knows? Maybe they are trying to lure the Wal-Mart there from North High!
Waiting on the owner

You know these kinds of wise ass cracks are uncalled for. The fact is that the City did direct the re-development of the old Kroger site into a Giant Eagle this past summer. The fact is the owner of the old Big Bear store is wanting to put a another damn grocery store in there. They are getting like gas stations used to be. Anyway when the time comes and the owner of the old Big Bear store comes to his senses then that corner will be re-developed by a very competent city staff. Unless you have the bucks to buy and develop the property then I would suggest patience.
