Anarchy in the City

Posted in: PATA
I have been reading the statement that Councilman Fix read to the City Council on December 5th and I am discussed with both his comments and his arrogant attitude. His total lack of respect for other individual members of council and the City as a whole is unacceptable to me and others. I believe I have read somewhere Mr. Wisniewski?’s power point presentation that Mrs. Riggs is referring to. Clearly by the middle of October Mrs. Riggs was still in the dark about what was at stake in this agreement. By this late date though Mr. Fix was very confident that Mrs. Riggs would support and vote for this agreement. Mr. Fix is like a cancer spreading through our community and he has the full support of the Mayor. By October 12th months after Mr. Fix had worked out the details of this agreement some members of council had not taken the time to read or do any basic research on such an important vote. Normally I understand that the City staff would provides DETAILED background complete with expert studies and opinions. However below you can see in Mr. Fix?’s own words he totally rejects those staff recommendations as some political ploy by Mr. Wisniewski.

I know Yosemite Pam has stated in that past that she admired David Shaver and considers Dave her friend despite his illness. Clearly our Mayor has lost control of the City and of Mr. Fix. At this point I need to speak with someone that attended the meeting to see if the Mayor made any moves to stop Mr. Fix?’s campaign to smear Mr. Wisniewski. How does a Mayor allow this kind of talk to continue at a public meeting? What prize awaits Mayor Shaver in 2007 in exchange for his silence?

#6 Those in favor of this agreement have ignored our experienced staff?’s recommendations. Yet another misrepresentation by Mr. Wisniewski to stoke the fires of his followers. The fact of the matter is that Mr. Wisniewski asked our city manager to come up with her version of what this type of agreement would look like and as a city manager she had little choice but to create the significantly one-sided document that she did. When asked why her version of the agreement was so one sided she replied ?“I?’m your city manager, its my job to do things in favor of this city, what would you expect me to come with??”

SERVICE COMMITTEE OF COUNCIL
CITY HALL, 100 LOCKVILLE ROAD
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2006
REGULAR MEETING
7:30 P.M.

?“Mrs. Riggs stated she felt Mr. Wisniewski had done a very good job on his research. She stated this was the first time she had seen this information and she would also like to hear from our Director of Development and staff. Mrs. Riggs stated she did not feel the agreement was ready to be moved out from Service Committee and she felt Council needs to work collaboratively and continue to look at it from all sides. She stated she thought they need to work together and she would also like to invite the Township Trustees in to talk with them to present what they are looking for from the City. Mrs. Riggs stated over 87 percent of our school tax comes from residents and only 11 percent from business.?”

Thoughts on the economic development agreement
The proposed Pickerington/Violet economic agreement sounds great to the city, but not for the residents of the area
If this agreement goes though how much more is it going to cost each household? To build the roads/bridges needed it will cost in taxes. Pickerington City Council already said we don?’t have the money to do 10 percent of our roads each year, but we have enough to give half to Violet Township. We have enough to help build the roads such as Allen Road which will cost approximately $30 million to build, not to mention the adjoining roads.
Pickerington may be six police officers short, but we are slowly getting where we need to be. By the way, the Fairfield County Sheriff is short handed in the police force as well. Where will the money come from to support our police/fire departments? More commercial means more fire/police.
Agreement says no residential annexation by Pickerington and no annexation of commercial unless on our borders for 30 years. Any surrounding area can annex and give tax incentives to businesses meaning no money for our schools. More business + more housing = more students.
How many years will it take for us to see the benefit from our taxes we pay if there is a rainbow at the end? Will we be a Whitehall and come back many years from now? Will we be a Bexley and stand our ground? How many years of growing taxes to build all this, and how many years before we recover from a bad move by local trustees and council?
We (Violet & Pickerington) can work together to make and maintain a great community without making agreements that will cost our families more then they can afford, and without making few in the area rich.
To the councilman who states how some of council is educated and high up the hill, and how small the others are I say: A boss has no company without workers, people who make them look good. An officer in the military doesn?’t complete his mission without the lower ranks giving their lives on what he thinks. For the new council who haven?’t been here long enough to know the people of this area: ?“We are not Dublin, if you wanted Dublin you should have moved there. That?’s right, you can?’t afford the taxes. Well, guess what, we can't either.
